Got a similar one ... also true ... couple, friends of my mother-in-law in New York years back (1970s) - think they might have been on honeymoon - got in a lift in a plush hotel when the door opens and a guy gets in with two big dogs ... the women is scared of dogs and starts to panic - the guy reassures her and apologises for any distress ... They go to check out a couple of days later to find their stay has been fully paid for and with a further apology for any distress caused by... Paul Newman - ...seems like he was a very nice guy all round and one of the few mega stars that remained completely faithful to his missus...
Morning. Yesterday’s meetings were more painful and pointless than I could have possibly imagined. Today it’s just a couple of meetings and then some sort of forced fun then lying about what time my flight is to leave early.
No celebrity story from me, it’s raining. just back from a blood test at the hospital and I have a full day return to work. **** really
Couldn't remember who Paul Newman's missus was so looked it up - actress Joanne Woodward Knew he had his own food company because sauces and marinades are still being sold in local Waitrose... What I hadn't realised was that having co-founded 'Newman's Own' he donated all post tax profits and royalties to charity - as of May 2021 those donations totalled USD 570 million! Wow ... top fella ... sincerely hope nothing negative ever comes out of the woodwork on him ...
I sold sniff to mark Lamar once, done a few lines with spenny from made in chavski too And I know MC DT personally, done a few parties for me over the year's Oh and Bianca from EastEnders is my step mums cousin Oh and I used to play rugby with Ben Shepard of GMTV All massive star's obviously
I sat across from Micheal Portillo on a train and we discussed his programme ‘Britian’s greatest railway journey’s’ was on my way to Sheffield from Huddersfield big tings
Met 'Bianca' in Godfrey's (rather posh) Fish and Chip shop in Harpenden a few years back - locked eyes, smiled, nodded ... Harpenden attracts a fair few celebs ... John Motson was a regular drinker in The Silver Cup on Harpenden Common - seen Mick Harford there too .. Craig Charles (Red Dwarf) lived there for some years and I bumped into him several times - nodding terms again .. Andy Farrell (Rugby League) and now the Ireland Rugby Union coach - actually chatted with whilst waiting for a Thai takeaway during a torrential downpour ... solid bloke ... Bumped into Jack Wilshire in Harpenden and Robbie Kean in St Albans ... both smiled and nodded... fair play - Make it a habit not to speak to 'celebs' unless spoken to ... they get enough bother... Perhaps the weirdest, and certainly most 'significant' (from my perspective) was at The Royal Brompton whilst waiting to see the Heart Surgeon who was just about to tell me that he was going to operate on me (heart bypass) ... sitting opposite me and the missus in the rather plush Waiting Room was Barry Humphries (Dame Edna Everage) ...
Hohoho... Certainly larger than life - blue and white striped flannel suit, a fedora and a walking cane...
I used to keep a celeb score card with a mate who I traded with, for famous people who'd bought our products at festivals and events. I was winning 5-4 when he sold his business. I had Hugh Fearnley Witingstall, Anthony Worral Thompson (although you see these sorts at food events all the time) David Baddiel, Terri Hatcher, and Prince Charles (as he was before he was king) Seen loads of celebs at these sorts of places milling around. Dawn French, Kate Winslett, That dude who does Bake off. The geezer who does Grand Designs. But the rules were that they had to buy something off you to count. My best one though is meeting Lee Dixon in the surf at my local beach. I was like, that bloke looks like Lee Dixon but it can't be as it's so out of context. Eventually I paddled over to him and asked and it was him. Then I went all gushy and I'm a life long Arsenal fan etc. I was chatting to him about surfing and he said that since he retired he's knees are ****ed, so he tries to get in the water to stay fit.
DT is a legend. Random fact, my missus gave him some weed once when she was interviewing Pied Piper for a Student magazine, back when Do you really like it dropped and became a massive hit. She said the Old Bill came into the building as she left and then she got all para because she thought she would be responsible for them getting nicked lol Dunno if you know the names, but I know a few people on the music scene from your neck of the woods, Daz-I-Kue, aka Darren Benjamin, was part of Bugz in the Attic and that broken beat scene. TY who died from covid a couple of years ago. He was mates with some of my friends on the scene down here and loved the Cornish party crew. IG culture aka Ian Grant and Alex Phountzi. All of these guys were instrumental in setting up Coop which you've probs heard of.
Oh and I snogged Miki Bereni from Lush at a place called the Venue in New Cross Not sure I've mentioned that before though
Aged 10 / 11 I was kissed on the forehead by a female tennis player (not British) who later on in her career went on to win Wimbledon .and other Grand Slams ... Was chuffed to bits at the time ... but if that happened these days there would be a public outcry and I'd have to sue her for emotional and psychological trauma
