The Inheritance Tax threshold can be up to £500k provided your 'total estate' at the time of death is less than £2 million .... so most people in the UK can still leave their home to their kids without paying any IHT ... ... here's the thing though - if you have to go into care and haven't got the readies to pay for it weekly / monthly - the cost is collated and set against the value of your house to be collected once you snuff it and the house is sold / passed on ...
