**** it, let's get this out of the way. Last game before the international break and any defeat by less than 3 goals will be a minor miracle. I just wonder how toxic things will get in the away end if we completely collapse. Still, at least we've got captain fantastic back now, our manager cannot wait to put him back in the team.

Prediction: Arsenal score however many they can be arsed to with Gabriel nutting in 5 consecutive corners and Russell Martin delights over having more of the ball than them.

    Referee: Tony Harrington.
    Assistants: Darren Cann, Derek Eaton.
    Fourth official: Josh Smith.
    VAR: Michael Salisbury.
    Assistant VAR: Ian Hussin.

    drub
    British English

    Verb
    Word forms: drubs, drubbing, drubbed(transitive)
    1.
to beat Southampton FC as with a stick; cudgel; club; football
    2.
to defeatutterly, as in a contest won 9:0
    3.
to drum or stamp (the feet) or clap your teams fourth goal against Southampton
    4.
to instil with force or repetition
Bompey drubbed a sense of despair into the Southampton squad.

Obviously we are all sure another drubbing is coming our way. But, though Arsenal may drub us, we have been drubbed before and will be drubbed again. Misery and loyalty were drubbed into us from an early age.

    5-0 Arsenal.

Our record, when we were one of the better teams, against the top side in the Championship was lost 2, scored 1 and conceded 9, what on earth are we going to do against Arsenal?

It will be how much they want to bust a gut once they've won the game after about 30 minutes surely.

Obviously his language and abuse aimed at the officials was severe as that is a big punishment. Great captaincy. <doh>

Then I'm not sure why Alfie and Blackmore are saying the punishment is harsh quite frankly. He effectively committed 2 red card offences - the tackle and the language. He's been punished as such.

If they bothered to punish it regularly and appropriately, of course. Which they never do

It does seem a bit harsh but sets an example. Bruno however will probably get away with his outbursts as he apparently didn't swear?

I'm fairly certain any referee who gets called a **** will send off the player (if they haven't already been sent off) and will report it properly. I've read the report published by the FA and there's no other way of putting it, Stephens let himself and the club down with his behaviour. He called the referee a ****, called the 4th official a **** twice. That's aggravating circumstances right there - multiple uses of abusive language. He also went back on the field to continue arguing and to top off he's the captain. TBH a case could be made for the club to strip him of the captaincy. They won't do that but he should be fined and warned by the club.

Dissent is one thing, what Stephens said is a hell of a lot worse.

You used to be able to lipread Rooney and co all calling the ref that and not even getting a yellow. There has always been a double standard.

I do agree Stephens deserves his ban, but I wonder if it gets reported the same with big names.

I said it seemed harsh, but it was deserved and the Club should hand out their own punishment too, but you will never hear about it.

Literally saw Mason Mount shout '**** off ref you ****' on Super Sunday this weekend after getting booked for a tackle and absolutely nothing was done about it

I think context is a big thing here. Players will often swear in the heat of the moment on the field after they feel wronged by a decision. It won't, though, be aimed directly at the referee. I don't send someone off for saying "****ing hell ref" or "for ****s sake". I'll have a word or book for dissent but that isn't direct abuse. Stephens did all his swearing after he'd been sent off already and it was obvious from watching from the stand, he was going for the officials.
