With Wilcox no longer here and no replacement named, presumably the decision would fall to Ankersen. Which doesn't fill me with confidence.

I think the board want to give Martin time, hence the new contract in the summer. Obviously results are what he will be judged on, but if he continues with these odd rants and aggressive interviews it is only going to eat into the credit be has won and speed up the process.

Burnley wanted to give Kompany time and look how that worked out. If we persist with Martin we're down - 100%. If we change manager now we still have a chance. Martin's style does not work with the quality of players we have. Which, TBF, a lot of people have been saying before a ball was kicked this season.

They also said on Sky last night that it’s the first time ever none of the promoted sides had a win after 6 games. Considering how most people were banging on about the Championship being very strong last year and the top teams being miles ahead, just shows how huge the gap is

Im not sure. Leicester and Ipswich do look good. They look solid at this level. They’ve both had harder fixtures

We were lucky to get promoted, and then spent badly.

Well, both sides are leaking goals just as much as us so I dispute your claim they look solid. They currently both have a better chance than us though.

Our squad reminds me of the last PL one. Some talented youngsters with a lot of dross in the more experienced category. Key difference being the dross we had in the experienced category last time had a lot of PL experience, which isn’t the case this year.

I think Martin gets the Leicester game, which I think is after the international break? As I said before we should go all out for Corberan. He has been the best manager in the FL for a couple of years now and it’s just a matter of time before he gets a chance in the top flight somewhere. He also would be a very good choice to get us back up.

I don’t know if he would take it though. He allegedly turned Leeds down before they got Farke (might have even been when they were in the PL after Marsch, can’t remember exactly when). Does seem fairly loyal and doesn’t rush into things. Leeds at the start of last season was more attractive than we would be if we lose the next two. I should add that he was part of Bielsa’s coaching team at Leeds so maybe there was something about them sacking him that made him turn the role down.

I don't disagree that we will go down if we keep Martin. I actually think that there is a scenario in which we go down but keep Martin, the board wouldn't have given him a new deal if not.

But clearly if things don't change he wont last the season.

Out of interest, does anyone on here still back Martin and want him to stay? From what I can see both this forum and Saints Web are pretty united in wanting Martin out now. While that doesn't represent the entire fanbase, you can get a good idea of how the fans are feeling.

That insane / desperate line up was the final straw for a lot of people I think.

He cost us the game before a ball was kicked last night

Get rid now, way out of his depth, but who to get in? €64,000 question I am afraid.

I don't think he's got what he takes to keep us up, I thought that would be the case though by our performances last season; good enough to be competitive in the Championship but we can't play the same way in the Premier League... We don't have the players for it. He doesn't have a plan B, let alone C or D!
He seems a nice enough guy and has had a good relationship with the players (maybe not so much after last night's comments) and I'm grateful he took us up - but for me, if we are to stand a chance we need to replace RM before we're adrift at the bottom. The next concern would be who we bring in to replace him...

I almost admire his balls, but when you have already made mistakes, know that the team isn't at PL level and had a bit of bad luck, it isn't time to pull a Pep is it. He probably thought he was being pragmatic.

It is a shame that it is so predictable. I quite like the guy, but perhaps it was too soon for the Prem or that his style without the best just isn't viable in the Prem. I sometimes wonder how different the confidence levels would have been if we'd got the 3 points at Newcastle. We've all said it, just too pedestrian.

I don't think we should be slacking him now personally. Lose to Leicester though and his position becomes untenable I think.

All 3 promoted sides have struggled but we've comfortably had the kindest start fixtures wise.

No matter how positive you want to feel about your support for RM, you cannot defend the indefensible, his team selections are odd, he needs help in this direction, I guess there must be a lot of dressing room distraction, trying to keep such a big squad happy is impossible, he can't play them all.
I think that on his own he is out of his depth, so either back him up, or show him the door, not that it would improve things in the short term with this sub-standard squad.

He took us up, so it was right to let him have a go in the PL. he’s had a go, 1pt in 6 games is terrible: we’re on track to get 6 points this season. SIX POINTS If we continue on the same trajectory.

It can’t really get worse than this, there are no signs that it will improve. I can’t see us scoring more than one goal every 2-3 games, we concede at least 2 goals a game.

This is where I am with it. I wouldn't say I'm 'Martin In' but I struggle to be calling for the head of a manager who took us up at Wembley at the end of a long 49-game season after just six games (only four of which I thought we had any chance of getting anything out of anyway)

Another couple of crap performances and heading into November with 0 wins through the first 9/10 games and then it's time for a change if there's a decent option

    I'm with you there.

However, IMO he is becoming a bit NJ in his comments after the games. I like Martin, he turned us around and let's face it last season was fun - I actually looked forward to going to every game.

Unfortunately, and very soon, last year will count for nothing in all the credit he has built up.

Just spoke with my dad who is that older generation who basically supports both Bournemouth and Saints. He said that if you look at Saints’ team compared to Bournemouth’s not a single outfield player would get in. I don’t quite agree but the overall sentiment that this team is a long way off a mid table PL sides team I do agree with.

He went on to say that regardless of style this Saints team would struggle. I think it’s hard to really know as we have only seen them play this way so no idea how it would work playing something else.

Yeah, I know what you mean. He has always had that streak in him, even in the good times, where his back gets up quite easily and he becomes very protective and spiky (as shown by some of his run-ins with Blackmore) - and I guess it becomes more apparent and grating when he isn't getting results
