Yeah, agree. Have always thought we’d go straight back down, especially after seeing the squad when the window shut and we still didn’t have a clear #1 goal scorer. Said that I’d be happy to get relegated with Martin in charge provided it wasn’t a total circus but… well…

I agree with you, but it is hypocritical. The reason we were good in the Championsup was because we had double/triple/quadruple the budgets of majority of other teams

Looking at some of his responses tonight, I genuinely think he's lost the plot.

This. Always feels like the beginning of the end when managers do that.

I suspect he thinks the squad is a mix of players with great character who don't have the ability to play in this league and players with ability who don't have the mental strength to handle setbacks.

In fairness to him the mentality problem has been there for years.

Thing is once it was clear we had hardly any goals in the squad it was always likely that we wouldn't be all that competitive due to Martin's inability to organise a defence.

His teams have always, without exception, conceded loads of goals but he's done well when he's had the attacking players to score plenty too.

Without that in the squad then I don't see any real successes for him this season.

And on that note, perhaps a bit controversial, but does anyone else wonder if we might have been better off sticking with Alex and spending £25m on a striker instead?

I know it's obviously not as simple as that and £25m doesn't get you a lot forward wise these days anyway but it's an interesting thought.

I think we should’ve just taken the £15m or whatever it was we got offered for KWP from West Ham and then tried for a £30m striker instead of Archer. No idea how realistic that striker signing would’ve been without being behind the scenes

As it looks we are not going to play KWP and lose him for free so it’s not like we get the benefit of having him for this year but selling at a cheap price

Surely we're not going to continue leaving him out. He's our most proven outfield player at this level.

I don't buy that we're leaving him out due to the contract situation tbh. I think he just thought Sugawara started the season well but we needed more balance on the left.

Which isn't unreasonable in itself imo but it'd be madness to keep leaving Kyle out and I don't think Taylor is anything special.

Possibly, after his comments tonight could see KWP coming in for Sugawara and keeping Taylor in on the left.

I think we play three at the back against Arsenal so Fraser LWB and KWP RWB

I know I've been shot down for it a lot but I do think we look much better defensively with 3 at the back.

Going forward is worse obviously but I don't see how we can win many games at all if we're going to average 2 goals conceded a game.

I'd be very happy with Potter. But I don't see him going anywhere until the FA have decided who the next England manager will be. That's at least three weeks away realistically, and more likely longer.

Though to be honest, even if he doesn't get that job, I'm not at all convinced that we could tempt him here.

I agree, I also think it helps us play out from the back having the extra body back there. Of course we look completely toothless going forward but we look like that anyway.

The other argument put forward is by having the extra player back there it encourages the players to **** around with it more as there is that extra body, but again we look like we are going to do it anyway by going to the fullbacks and then back inside instead

People really need to stop this Potter and Moyes talk. Neither are going to come here.

I think we could attract Moyes. But I don't see SR being attracted by him.

Realistically it would have to be another possession-based manager (which clearly isn't Moyes), but ideally one who doesn't take it to such an extreme. Preferably one who focuses more on bringing the ball forward.

I don't think we could tbh.

For a start we don't have a squad suited to his style as far as I can tell, and with his stock being its highest since leaving Everton I don't see why he'd risk adding another relegation to his CV. Wait around a bit and he'll get a better offer. Doesn't he also have a nice and stress free UEFA job now?

Agree that SR wouldn't go for him mind.

TP would get a game. But then I fear he’s a stretched out BBD in terms of quality.
