He’s done that blind pass a few times now. He’s clearly very confident in himself but he didn’t half give them a platform to create
Not sure about that , I think Jones would be OK paired with somebody better which will hopefully be Hughes
If the idea is to have one 'instigator' and one 'dependable' then absolutely. If the idea is to have two of the former then he needs more time still, or will eventually need to have someone more in that mould challenging for his spot.
And I made that very point, he's adapted to the system, he understands what's required, but he's just not a good enough footballer to execute it.
I think you're confusing Steve Deere with Stuart Eccleston who was, indeed, cack. Steve Deere was around in the early to mid-70s, but that still doesn't qualify him as a "Legend" apart from the fact he probably lives locally and was available at short notice.
How good he was is shown by the fact that after leaving he joined Bridlington Town who weren’t even the best team in Brid at that time.
My apologies. From what I've seen so far I don't see Burns as an upgrade just yet. I think the left sided CB spot is likely to be contested between Macca and Hughes. Besides, Maccas just played in 2 consecutive wins. So I doubt we'll see many unforced changes anyway.
There was a 5 minute spell in the second half where Omur went central and he created 2 massive chances for us. The one where Bedia should’ve got on the end of the Belloumi cross and then the driving run that led to the corner we scored from. For me he’d still be first choice for that role ahead of Palmer and Mehlem.
Also - apologies - like someone above said I must be confusing Deere with Eccleston (Both of whom were like chocolate fire guards). My memory is clearly slipping
I feel Macca has been doing pretty well so far this season (as in previous seasons). It sounds as if he had a poor game on Saturday - I wasn't there so didn't see it for myself - but plenty seem to be wanting to have a go at him. Of course, Hughes may do better in that position, but Walter's system places a huge responsibility on the back 4 not just to create but to defend when we are so open. Thus far, we haven't conceded that many goals so those rushing to say we should be replacing Macca and (some wanting to replace Jones too) might find other defenders find this system equally tough. I've long thought people overlook how often Macca is exactly in the right place to block a cross, win his defensive battles, etc. He isn't quick but he is just technically a very good defender in my opinion.
This is probably something to note. Omur gets through a lot of work and isn't really being deployed as an out and out winger even though he's nominally being played in a wide midfield role. I wonder if we went with 2 out and out wingers from the start whether we'd look even more susceptible on the counter than we do already. He's clearly persisting with Abdus for a reason.
If he can do that in the middle whilst theoretically playing on the wing then why does he need to be moved at all? Just let him keep doing that.
