I saw the highlights of that game and noted the laws about touchlines still don’t seem to apply to Norwich!
You're right, last 4 goals have all come from being countered on, if you include stokes which was from a corner they won when countering on us
Problem for me is Macca seems to look at the ball when in possession and not around him enough so he nearly gets caught out. Jones just seems lacking in real confidence to play expansively at all- hyper safety first . Bothe need their oppos better abilities . their lack of looking up and across field limits us .
I'm not sure it automatically will. Millar has done much more to stake a claim for a start even if it isn't his natural side. Ömür could move over to the right anyway.
I would think they both come in, anyone thinking Omur should be playing on a wing needs checking into a mental asylum.
I wouldn't disagree with that, I would prefer Millar on the left and Kamara on the right, instead of Omur. Unless he can find away of playing Omur more centrally then he is putting a square peg in a round hole playing him wide.
This was first chance to see a league game this season and as many have said, you see so much more of what the players are doing live. There was so much movement further upfield which was missed by our CBs because they never look up, they are always looking for the closest player to pass to. I can't see how Walterball will properly work without at the least Hughes coming in for Macca. I've always liked and admired Macca for the effort he puts in and his defensive qualities, and he is really trying to play the new way, but he just isn't a good enough footballer on the ball and he's the main reason why the ball is played around so slowly at the back (although Jones shares some of the responsibility).
Macca is getting a lot of criticism but I think he’s taken to the system better than Jones in some ways. It’s clear we need to see Hughes come in when he’s recovered, but I’d probably opt for dropping Jones instead.
McLoughlin is miles more mistake prone though. He was seemingly doing his best on the weekend to lose the ball in good areas for them
He was absolutely woeful first half on Saturday - made a blind pass which they could easily have scored from, was the wrong side of his man when he got booked and kept passing the ball to Drameh who was heavily marked and hemmed in by the touchline.
He's looked a lot better in the other games to be fair to him though, and he doesn't necessarily need a great passing range if his movement makes up for it. His problem is his awareness and keeping his head up so he can pick easy, progressive options. I'd echo the point about Jones as well. Jones CAN make those passes, as he does do it occasionally, the problem is his default setting is a short pass to Coyle or Macca 99% of the time unless Macca has moved forwards, in which case it goes to Coyle. On Coyle, for as good as he's been at carrying the ball out, again, it's not supposedly the point of the system. Gets us forward though so no complaints from me - just pointing out its not really what we're supposed to be trying to do.
For anyone too young to remember, Steve Deere was part of a dreadful CH pairing with Steve Richards c.1980. How he was included in the Legends parade on Saturday I will never know.
Macca seems as if he just can't get Rosie out of his head...I saw that he had the ball facing the opponents goal, but automictically turned a 180 to face our goal.. Nearly cost us big time with that blind back pass. Anyone know a witch doctor? Someone said TW was going ape ****..
