Syd, I the Mrs Sky plussed it, I've watched it again and the deal is not done and dusted, did you not hear Anderson saying that Allardyce had been in a similar situation and not signed?

You don't sign a contract and the do the dotting and crossing afterwards.

I'm not pissing on anyone's chips but it is not a done deal, not just yet.

IF MON signs wouldn't it be funny if he went and took some Villa players away from Judas.

Not quite squirming just yet <ok>. If you win your next five games on the spin, and we lose all of ours, then I'll probably be squirming!

Good appointment though if it all gets finalised.

Not that bothered about you squirming Dave. (Yet!)
The feeling of relief that we can start moving up the table from here is overwhelming though.
My son has just come in from his mates, it's the first time in months we have talked about SAFC with smiles on our faces.

I think he's got a lot of work to do in terms of getting the team to believe in themselves, but you can only get better with him in charge. It'll be the first time in a long time when we've both had really good managers and really good teams <ok>.

I think its really amusing when people say o neill spits his dummy out and would prefer Hughes, totally ignoring the fact that he walked out on Fulham after 5 mins in full strop.

I'm delighted if It's Mon. Best news for years for this club.

No I didn't at all, but he's proved me and the rest of the country wrong. I'd say he's doing a pretty good job with the resources available to him.

I'm not squirming, I'm intrigued. O'Neill is one of the appointments that don't worry me(should it happen).

Spending a massive £120million when at Villa in only 4 years and still only managing 6th. Even then not taking Europe seriously, despite spending so much money.

Should be interesting to see what he thinks of the Sunderland team at the moment and how much money he will want to spend in January and whether he will get it.

Question for the Mackems though, if O'neill is hired but has a poor start, will you lot jump on his back?
I ask as a lot of you do say our teams are similar. Or in RTG/SMB's case, hugely better on paper.

Martin O’Neill has moved into pole position in the race to become Sunderland’s new manager as the club’s owner, Ellis Short, wants to appoint someone who will excite supporters and boost attendances.

Although Mark Hughes was given serious consideration in the talks that have taken place since Steve Bruce’s sacking on Wednesday, he does not have the same success on his CV. It appears O’Neill would have to turn the job down for Hughes to be offered the chance to succeed his former Manchester United team-mate.

Discussions were at an advanced stage on Thursday evening with O’Neill travelling to Wearside to meet Short and development director Niall Quinn following a day of successful preliminary exchanges with his advisers.

Sunderland hope O’Neill will be in the stands at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday as their new manager, with Bruce's former assistant, Eric Black, taking charge of the team on the day.

Significantly, having spent more than a year out of the game since quitting as manager of Aston Villa last August, O’Neill recognises that Sunderland are an attractive proposition in the current job market, as long as he is given the means to make the best of it.

In turn, Short, on the advice of Quinn and club chief executive Margaret Byrne, has decided O’Neill is the No1 candidate with the best hope of establishing Sunderland among the top eight clubs in the country.

Neil Lennon "MON has a penchant for lifting clubs, Sunderland are a huge club and they were his boyhood team!"
