It was 15, and that’s not far from par for them this season - had 11 against Burnley despite getting twatted 5-0, 12 against Boro and Sunderland.
15, and only 4 on target. Also had 0 ‘big chances missed’. They were limited in their efforts on goal.
No not concerns, I meant people calling for him to be sacked, calling him incapable, couldn’t manage a Sunday league team. This started after the Leeds game and continued after the Sheffield United loss. 4 and 5 games in!
You can only beat what's put in front of you, but were we contriving to get them back into the game?.....Good job they were cack...A better side would have taken advantage. Pleased for the three points and the +1 GD.
Good to get another win on the board. We’re now averaging a much healthier 1.3 points per game. That’s still a way off the bench mark for a top six team, but it’s looking much better.
Millar... I've come to the conclusion that I find him quite frustrating and tbh can see why he doesn't start. He certainly panics opposition defenders, stretches the game and works his bollocks off, but the final ball just isn't there. Although it was a shame the keeper made a good save from that chance he had.
Hull City boss Tim Walter told BBC Radio Humberside: “We tried to show that we can win, especially at home and especially on such a day, it is a big birthday and we tried to celebrate together with our fans and we showed we can win together and we want to do it even more. “It was a good game, we had great moments in the offence, but we also had a few moments in defence where we can press and defend better. We tried to create chances and play forward. “We showed our mentality after conceding the first goal, after last week [against Stoke] we did it again which is really brilliant and showed everyone that we have a good mentality and the players really trust in our philosophy.” Cardiff City interim boss Omer Riza told BBC Radio Wales “I am disappointed, we approached the game in the right way, tactically and strategically we wanted to hold their unorthodox builds and I think we did that, we won the ball high up the pitch on numerous occasions, but lacked the final pass to score, although we got our noses in front. “I think 4-1 is a harsh result, but if you don’t do the little things properly you get punished and that is something we need to clean up. “The plan was to press and cause a problem, to make them uncomfortable and we did that, we did create chances, we did play with a different system to play more advanced with forward men. “We caused them a lot of problems today. We worked hard and showed good intent, but at the end of the day we’ve lost 4-1, it’s not a good result.”
Weird game, looked really good going forward at times but again wasted a lot of promising situations, and a better team puts a few past us second half. Bedia general play was a big positive for me, used his size and held the ball up well. Look good in transition, and think we’ll get better at playing through when a team is set, with time and confidence. The Omur stick is weird to me, I’d like us to play with two wingers too but Omur can drift inside and get in pockets, give us more control when needed, same reason Pep plays Grealish or Bernardo wide over Doku or Salvinho at times, plus Millar off the bench against tired legs is a great asset to have. Might not agree with it but to act as if it’s without reason is stupid. Lots of good signs but hopefully a lot more to come.
Great afternoon back at City, my first home game of season. Good entertaining game, home win, first since April, important to back up last week win, 3 points…..for Kemps, RIP. Don’t get me wrong, first half not a great spectacle, going behind first, again, but we had the resilience & bite to come straight back. Still a lot of messing about, possession in our own third, but work in progress. Harsh on Belloumi to be subbed, although may have been injured?, but he was busting a gut to get his hat trick. Pandur, again, good game with some valuable saves. My MOM would be Cpt Coyle, not only for his own performance, not to be beaten, but excellent captaincy re. the penalty, taking control, giving Bedia the ball, a chat, confidence. Then, explaining to Millar, his reasoning. Great captain. Good celebratory parade & acknowledgement, nice to see some legends again. Is it just me, why wasn’t Ashbee part of it, and how scruffy did Windass look? Looked like he’d had a phone call 30 mins before with offer to get himself down. Onwards & upwards. UTT.
Ashbee and Garreth Roberts should have been there, one of the Whitehurst/Edwards duo too, but they may well have been asked but couldn't make it. Agree on Windass, dear me
good to see city win after being behind again. of course, it's not ideal to concede first, or at all, but these two games go some way to convincing the players that being behind isn't fatal. yes, we know we're beaten two iffy teams, but it's been by decent scores each time, so let's hope the players aren't thinking they can only do it against poor teams. seven goals in two games is encouraging, especially after only two in the first five games and none at all in the last three.
