Lets concentrate on now. My opinion is that we are doing ok - a young squad with a young manager We have some good players But the Championship is a tough division Our budget is far from the biggest (probably not top half) I want to see Manning given a bit of time Chopping and changing does not work (apart from at Watford!)
we are doing ok have points gained is more than lost [draws count as gained .. W+D v L ] on target for 61 but not really realistic till 12 games have been played slow starter v fast starters tend to level out by about game 12+ then odd one /two fly's high / low till something clicks they then whizzzz up or Craaaash down.By game 12/14 there is usually 2 or 3 [ on points top 6+ ]that will be in top 6 at end of and 5 of the teams in top 10 also being there at EOS
The irony is it doesn’t work at Watford with 20 managers in 5 years or whatever the ridiculous stats are
I agree, but it’s the fault of the board people are impatient, they told us we had a top 10 side B4 all the additions, we were just lacking a coach. Don’t blame I, blame Ee
Those that aren’t blinded by love for the previous manager can see what LM is trying to do, while recognising we don’t have a top 6-10 budget in this league, regardless of what some on here say. https://insidefutbol.com/2024/09/26...istol-city-to-stick-with-liam-manning/662158/
Think about it dipsy. Who orgionally got Nige into the club? SL Allowed his boy run things with LJ and then Dean Holden until he had enough and HE got Nige. Then he’s taken a back seat again and gets fed information from others.
True SL listened to his son and we have what we have. Gotta a lot to prove if he is any where near Nigel Pearsons quality.
I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but it’s completely missing the point, if it was completely about budget why do clubs keep changing managers, and anyway budget doesn’t always equate to league placing,
not totally sure but ..when a manager gets sacked it because they are not employee [ they are employed by the club though ] they are CONTRACTED so when they leave or sacked / mutual ............. it is in terms of the contract so it could be Nige didnt cost anything to change with comments in his contract ... it expired and not renewed ..However if "sacked" would be in terms of the contract and might not be a complete golden handshake off the remaining contract but paid monthly! [ tax purposes etc can be an issue ]
You are missing the point as well, my comment wasn’t about the contract, it was about the messaging of the board to the fans.
.................................. ................................................ SO didnt affect the budget!
That comment was meant to demonstrate that the size of budget doesn’t necessarily equate to where you finish. My broader point was the reason some fans are criticising our present position is not due to our budget but because of how our management presented the reason for Swapping from NP to LM. Ie with a better coach (LM) we’d be top 6, B4 all the recent recruit, so with it we should do even better.
You have a point, but by the same logic, we were promised an upgrade on LJ/DH when they appointed Nige, it didn’t really happen in terms of league finish though, did it, which is all that counts in football. Cue all the excuses as to why it didn’t happen with Nige
I would argue he did what SL brought him in to do, reset whilst maintaining championship status. The next part was always going to need investment to achieve and JL & BT decided they wouldn’t trust NP with the cash, so brought in THEIR man, hence LM’s appointment.
We don’t know that was SL’s target for him, that notion has only come from people on here. I accept in season 1 that may well have been the case. However, for season 2 & 3 I can’t believe that would have been acceptable to SL, the whole point of the experience that Nige brought was to move the club forward on and off the pitch on a budget. I’ve said all along he did a good job in one, and nothing more than average in the other.
