What was disgusting was the amount of so called mitigating circumstanses the judge was bringing up in one of the kids defense, mental health, low iq, adhd etc, they'll likely both be out in 4 or 5 years, this country's justice system is ****ed, more pandering to the criminals than any justice for the victims or safety for the public.
Steady on, these lads were 12 years old and if you've read the news you'll know that they must serve a minimum of eight and a half years and be on license for life. Mitigating circumstances absolutely must be considered but we don't know to what extent they affected the sentencing. I don't know the background, no-one does but we don't, rightly imo, treat 12 year olds as adults. I don't condone what they did, it's tragic, and I agree that our sentencing system is flawed, but I don't see what else could have been done.
If anything, its relatively a 'long' sentence as most countries don't give 12 year olds a custodial sentence. Questions should be asked as to what the parents of the guilty were doing or not doing that has caused their young children to murder.
In short one is claimed to have issues and being easily lead, the other mature beyond his years. One of them was known to the police for carrying a knife as well as being a bad un (my description) were some of the things that stood out and stuck in my mind.
This Biker, walked into a biker bar around 9:58 pm. He sat down next to this blonde at the bar and stared up at the TV as the 10:00 news came on. The news crew was covering a story of a man on a ledge of a large building preparing to jump. The blonde looked at the Biker and said, "Do you think he'll jump?" The Biker says, "You know what, I bet he will." The blonde replied, "Well, I bet he won't." The Biker placed $30 on the bar and said, "You're on!" Just as the blonde placed her money on the bar, the guy did a swan dive off of the building, falling to his death. The blonde was very upset and handed her $30 to the Biker saying, "Fair's fair... Here's your money." The Biker replied, "I can't take your money, I saw this earlier on the 5 o'clock news and knew he would jump." The blonde replies, "I did too; but I didn't think he'd do it again." The biker took the money.
Is often the case when children commit serious crime. The issue is that if you neglected/abused a dog and it attacked someone, the public finger of blame would be rightly directed towards you and an element of sympathy towards the dog, who'd be destroyed. Yet with the case of these 12 year olds, much of the comments are about them being 'evil' or entirely responsible for their actions. It's a complex issue.
Mitigating factors are part of the circus that we call courts of law,the Judge can decide whether to pay any creedance to them or make his/her mind up to whether or not it's waffle. These 'lads' seemed to be fully aware of what they were doing and any media reports I've read suggest that this pair of feral little bastards carried out a brutal murder with such force that one of the wounds(the fatal one)penetrated the victims body 9 inches and almost passed through his body. I think I tend to side with Shawn Seesahai's bereaved parents who are outraged by the 'leniency' shown,I'm pretty sure I'd be showing the same emotions if this happened to anyone or anything belonging to me. These are parents who then had to spend their entire life savings on repatriaing their sons remains, take out a loan to attend the trial and ultimately couldn't even afford to be present at the sentencing. My empathy lies with them, not with a pair of lying little ****ers who blamed each other for taking someone's life and who will more than likely roam our streets when they reach their 20's.
WTF has society become that kids could even do such things. We need an absolute reset. And it should start with banning knives, full stop. There's no need for anyone to be carrying. Immediate prison sentence (oh hang on). It's so ****ing obvious; instead we get "down by 50% by 2030" - it's like they just don't care.
The knee jerk reaction is always a new law, but we have and have had for years laws which cover this. They didn't enforce the existing laws and there are no signs that they will be able to enforce any additional ones.
Couldn’t agree more about banning knives Saw one of those 24 hours in police custody and those knives are genuinely terrifying things, I do think there is something in holding parents responsible for their children too. what’s the answer ? God knows
