My niece did her usual raid on my CD collection the other month , she left with 10cc,tears for fears and Joe Jackson ,loved them and had booked tkts to see tears for fears
Now, I'm a big fan of 10cc and Graham Gouldman (and his daughter, cough) and investigated ticket anvailability... BUT it's on the night of Halloween...? 10cc on Mrs B's favourite night of the year? Are you mad? I'd rather keep my testicles, thank you.
No, that was Paul Burgess the drummer. But strangely enough when looking for that video I found this one from earlier this year - with Godley appearing with this version on 10cc singing 'Cry'.
Might have overdone the echo there, but great anyway. Big of them to do a Godley and Creme song. The 2 missing here are (or were) brothers in law I believe. Must have been some interesting Christmas's over the years.
There never was any major falling out between them. The G&C split from the band was certainly amicable and Gouldman and Stewart carried on playing for years after, although as I recall their last 'album' together was a collection of songs that they had recorded individually and then put on the one record - so the end was predicted!! They all knew each other from the mid-'60's in Manchester and their music history is amazing: writing and producing songs for really big names over decades. A personal aside... Eric Stewart, who set up the original Strawberry Studios, produced and engineered a couple of Sad Cafe albums, c1979-80. Their original bass player was John Stimpson, who gave up the business shortly after and became a business development manager - and we worked together on a UK Home Office contract between 2010 and 2012. Lovely guy, who told some great stories over a pint or two! Sadly, he passed a couple of years back.
10 cc came out of a band called Hot legs if I recall and had a song called Neanderthal man , I recall it from the days of Dial a Disc , you could call a number on the phone and hear a song , if you used a public call box you could hit the handset cradle rabidly and get the song without paying who said that Spotify was original streaming
Seems to be a trend of getting your daughter to play with you Joe Brown and Sam Brown Curt Smith and his Daughter did a version of Mad World And Gary Numan has his daughter in his band and co wrote songs on the last album
Leah Weller has sung and written with her old man too! (why would I know that lol), I also saw Dave Grohls daughter sing with the Foo's earlier this year
The criminally underrated Judy Tzuke and daughter Bailey Tzuke Also Mary Hopkin and daughter Jessica Lee Morgan
Nick Begg's daughters have a promising acoustic career and their dad plays double bass with them when he's not touring with Howard Jones and Steven Wilson et al. Not my 'tasse de te' particularly, but pleasant enough
Nick Lowe at The Palladium last night. Wonderful. Sadly I missed Andy Fairweather Low's support slot (my mad mother passed away on Monday and I've been very busy ever since, clearing her stuff from the nursing home) but everyone there was having a blast. He's got a new album freshly released (recorded with Los Straightjackets) and played a number of the tracks. I'd highly recommend it. No 'The Beast in Me' or 'True Love Travels..' in the set, but his closing version of Alison was exquisite and made Mrs B cry. It was a wonderful night, only slightly spoiled by getting on a tube occupied by a young lady sobbing her heart out. Mrs B comforted her...whilst I sat next to a bloke holding a closed plastic coke bottle containing a load of food waste and a LOT of live flies. All life is here....
Was Geraint Watkins playing with him ? Having seen Nick a number of times Geraint has been the support act , just him on the organ and a real old bluesy gravelly voice and a very very dry sense of humour
