It's bonkers to mention that a hedge fund is in a tax haven...they all are. In fact nearly all investment companies are based in zero tax countries and that is not to avoid tax, it is simply that collective investment schemes don't work if they have to pay corporation tax. If I buy shares in Microsoft and it pays a dividend then I pay income tax, if I sell at a profit I pay CGT. If two or more people do the same thing jointly in a company then they will be worse off if the company profits are taxed at source. Any profit I make from investing in a hedge fund based in say, the Cayman Islands, is liable to exactly the same tax in the UK as if I owned the investments directly myself. All major economic blocs encourage zero taxation of investment companies with particular jurisdictions setting up zero corporation tax regimes for them. UK has Jersey, Guernsey and IoM; EU Cyprus, Malta and Luxembourg, US has the state of Delaware.
And the donation wasn't made from the Hedge Fund, it was made from the investment manager which is based in the UK and pays corporation tax.
Which makes it all above board and definitely doesn't need to be investigated further, just like the fact that Starmer has already received more freebies in less than 100 days as PM than Sunak did over his entire tenure
Please quote your source for that last 'fact'. I don't think you can know that as ministers don't have to declare freebies they get in their official duties so for example if the Culture Secretary and the Shadow Culture secretary both accept invitations to the same concerts, one has to declare them and the other doesn't. I don't think any MP should be allowed to accept gifts from anyone but until that is the Law then I think it is unfair to criticise them.
