According to Fotmob stats Drameh was our MOM against Stoke so I thought I’d look at his season stats v’s Giles so far to see the differences… Giles 5 matches (5 start) 349 minutes 281 touches 4 duels won (28.6%) 0 tackles 83.5% pass accuracy 162 successful passes 0.01 X Goals 0.24 X Assists Drameh 4 matches (1 start) 159 minutes 187 touches 11 duels won (61.1%) 7 tackles 86.5% pass accuracy 115 successful passes 0.08 X Goals 0.09 X Assists Even if you crudely double Drameh’s numbers to get a comparison, he is way ahead particularly in duels, tackles and successful passes. Giles is behind in expected goals and there’s not much between them in expected assists if you are arguing that Giles is a more attacking full back. He’s also created 2 chances in his games and Drameh 1. We are certainly better with Drameh in the team than Giles at the moment and the stats back it up.
Well it started as an option which became an obligation we had the option of taking wether we wanted to or not.
I was surprised to see that Giles hadn’t made a tackle this season. I appreciate modern definitions of what makes a tackle confuse things - but Drameh made 6 against Stoke.
Ask me at the end of the season. For now, why do we always have to have a player we feel the need to bash.
Not sure it's about 'bashing' a player tbf, just discussion. It's ridiculous that we are still having problems at LB. Now playing (on merit mindst) a RB as LB. Drameh looks a very good player, a very good capture by us. I guess this is backed up by the fact that Leeds wanted him to sign a new contract with them before he chose to join us.
Wasn’t meant to be a bashing. I thought Giles would flourish this season, but don’t feel like we’ve seen anything like he is capable of. I thought Giles and Drameh would be excellent full back options. Coyle has been the pick of the bunch though!
Drameh is ranked 2nd in the Championship for average tackles per 90. Coyle is 21st. Giles yet to be ranked amongst 301 championship players who have made a tackle so far this season.
Drameh has taken his chance well, but he made a few errors against Stoke that first half. If any of our players were the finished article they wouldn’t be playing for us.
We apparently had the money for a striker. More likely we wasted our time signing a keeper on loan to good to turn down but can't get in the first team. I like Giles and think he's a good player. But seems to get a lot of stick but it's us that messed him about. Saying that Drameh was better on Friday.
It's only the obligation to buy after a poor spell that it makes it look so misjudged. In practice, it was always a permanent signing and not a loan with an option. If it was a normal £4m permanent deal from the beginning, everyone would have said it was a steal at the time based on his stats elsewhere. It seems City are making more and more of these fake loan deals to spread out spending, so Giles probably won't be the last player we end up forking out for after an underwhelming spell. To counter that, hopefully we end up with a few that seem like we've severely underpaid for when they turn out to be world-beaters.
