Also worth remembering that no team has yet torn us apart. All 9 goals we have conceded were as a result of our incompetence in a variety of areas - losing possession, poor defending of set pieces, playing players onside etc. Stop the errors and we might surprise a few teams.
Wish you hadn't said this when we're about to go into two tough away games against good pressing sides
I watched them against Chelsea (who play a similar way to us but with much better players) and they caused them all sorts of issues with their pressing and should have had a couple of goals very early on. Doesn't bode well imo but hopefully they're as wasteful as some other teams have been against us.
Exactly this, we have to wait and see how this work in progress plays out over the next few weeks because relationships on the pitch have yet to be formed although Adam, Tyler and Mateus appear to be on a pretty adjacent wavelength already. If we can cut out the slack defending at set pieces i'm sure that we can gain some good points and I think that Cam showed that he can feed off of the through balls and just needs to be a bit sharper with his finishing. I'd like to see what Maxwel can do on the left and we need a calming presence on the bench for when Adam tires and has to come off.
@Libby on a hatrick of matchday threads. No pressure keep it up to the international break Back to yesterday's game, my first game of the season, I enjoyed the buzz created by the new fanzone features outside the stadium and the half time appearances of some saints fa Cup winning legends including David Peach. I think pretty much everything has been said about the game but If we only win one match this season, please let it be away to Ipswich with a last minute winner, just to shut the muppets up.
Oh **** off Deeney: "Tyler Dibling (Southampton): He is one player everybody needs to look forward to because he is the business. He might not still be at Southampton in January" We are not selling him in January.
I wouldn't rule it out entirely tbh if we're already basically relegated by then. Extremely unlikely though.
If someone bids the right money then we know he will go, no point kidding ourselves that he won’t. We do get good fees for players and the owners don’t seem to be afraid to reject bids despite contract situations etc so I can’t see him going cheap when he does go. The whole “left the club then came back so he’ll stay” narrative is irrelevant if he is going somewhere to be a first team player, completely different scenario to moving as a youth prospect. Not sure why it didn’t work out at Chelsea? Was it just that he realised that there were 176 players in his position?
Honestly, the more hype the better. Right now I suspect he is already looking at a £50m+ fee. If he maintains this hype to January then we could be looking at 70+. So clubs may want to wait for relegation and assume we won't be in a strong negotiating position.
In the summer, maybe. In January, unless someone offers a stupid amount we won't sell. He's cuurently our best chance of staying in the PL so we have no reason at all to entertain bids halfway through the season.
Again depends on the scenario. If we are winless in January and someone comes along and bids £50m? I think it unlikely that he goes in January but ultimately if someone comes along with a big offer then he will
That's why I said if we're basically already relegated by January then there's a chance. I agree we won't if we're still in a shout of staying up
Yeah, the worst case scenario is we are adrift in January and we sell him for a lot of money, securing us financially long term. As as academy player, it will be pure profit so when we do sell him it will be great for PSR.
I’m disappointed that Deeney adopts the standard immediately sell off anyone who plays well for a smaller club approach If he keeps this up he’ll move at some point, but A He’s 18 and has just scored his FIRST EPL Goal B Significant transfers don’t happen in January and C We wouldn’t be selling him mid season. Whatever he fetches, if we sell and it contributes to our relegation, then it’s a really bad deal
This statement is all that is wrong with football. Accurate but horrible. "Great for PSR". I completely agree with you and I hate it.
Yeah I'm not naive enough to think we 100% won't sell him sooner rather than later. Definitely just need to enjoy watching him while we can. He's so good I genuinely think he could get an England call up this season.
