it is clearly excessive imo i;ve got no skin in this game and my view is all the warring parties are just utter ****s and as always in this sort of conflict the cost is borne most by the poor civilians stuck between the ****s
Meh. While my opinion is the lot of them can get in a massive blender we don’t hear a lot about the measures the IDF take, putting themselves at risk in the process, to warn civilians of where they’ll be. Nor that Hamas have done everything possible to maximise the death toll, embedding themselves in and under every civilian building and neighbourhood. If Hamas and Palestinian leaders cared 1% as much about improving the lot of their own people as they did killing Jews they’d be in a much better situation now. These are the people that cheered 9/11 and actively participated in October 7th. They’ve had much better than they deserve.
That's not quite true though is it mate. I got no beef in this argument, but to claim it is indiscriminate and happening to hit hostages as you say, in hospitals and schools, surely demonstrates that terrorists are hiding there, otherwise the hostages wouldn't be there says my logic. Now my logic also says they could be purely there to protect those buildings with no terrorists present, but you know and I know that would not be true.
Unless of course we are suggesting that civi's in schools and hospitals are keeping hostages captive lol.
Just shows what a poor judge you are then ... I've no side in this conflict but I am definitely a humanitarian ... so for me, just because Hamas hide out in hospitals doesn't and can never, IMHO, justify strikes on that hospital that kill mainly civilians ... given the weapons that the IDF have, what would you expect guerrillas to do .. form lines and march towards the tanks?
You’ve taken a side since October 8th. I’d have probably expected them not to kill and rape their way through a music festival and kibbutzim.
Do you think Israel’s response to that atrocity has been and continues to be; a) proportionate, and b) legitimate for a country which supposedly respects international law?
A- don’t care but yeah. Probably should have just blitzed the place on October 8th and be done with it. Consider it interest for all the attacks Israel has just sucked up and accepted down the years. B- yeah. But for a bonus point **** international law and all these senior UNRWA and similar organisations and their bods crying about Israel while turning a blind eye to Hamas over the years they’ve been there. There was a time when I had an ‘are we the baddies?’ chat with my mate who’s a marginally more devout jew and Israel enthusiast than me late last year. Not now. They’ve had their chance to end it and their fanatical support have only been emboldened. **** ‘em.
Really not surprising that the left wing guys on here are slamming Isreal whilst totally disregarding the kids killed by Hezbollah and the daily attacks on Israel with their rockets forcing well over 50 thousand Israelis out of their homes. Silence. Said on day one that the lefts anti-Semite heads will keep popping up over this, it has and continues to do so.
Proportionality in the conduct of war is one of the most willfully misunderstood areas of IHL, largely because of how oblique it is and how near-impossible it is to pursue with any real objective clarity. I'm not arguing that Israel is or isn't acting proportionately. What I'm saying is that the Law itself is almost impossible to uphold, since it seeks to establish objective practical policy based on a subjective emotional assessment, which is ludicrous and totally counter intuitive. The interrelationship between CDE and NCV (if you don't know what those stand for, you don't know enough about this section of IHL to possibly comment) is nuanced, complex and entirely subjective. They were NATO's attempts to pass Proportionality into law. The results were simply bizarre, with policy makers suggesting a ratio similar to 30 civilians:1 Osama bin Laden would be considered 'proportionate'. Who the feck makes up those numbers? Who sits there plucking ratios out of thin air to then decide what is or isn't 'lawful'? If Osama bin Laden is sitting in a room with 31 civilians, do we abort the mission and let him go free? Can you not see how infuriatingly illogical the whole thing is? Bottom line is, it is a noble and well-intended area of IHL that purports to be scientific but is actually totally emotional and therefore impossible to legislate.
my point was i thought fairly clear that HornyforHamas sides with Israel completely and you blame Israel for everything and Hamas / Hezbollah for nothing cases in point a) the hospital explosion that you and tbf most on here blamed on Israel despite there denials and yet that was proved to be a misfiring rocket fired by Hamas or Islamic Jihad b) blaming Israel for the recent rocket strike that killed Druze children when it was obviously Hezbollah.
Nothing to do with left vs right imo, and even less to do with Jews vs Moslems or whatever tribal bollocks people get fired up about. What the whole world is witnessing is the wholesale massacre of innocent civilians. Both sides are engaging in terrorist tactics, but Israel is supposed to be a legitimate state and member of the international community.
