I have wondered if we could play Armstrong wide, a bit like the Semenyo role, with Fally central ?, I’m not sure it would work , but may be worth trying, as Twine wide definitely isn’t working,

.... and yet Twine seemed to be the most important signing for Liam but there were many on here that couldn't see why. After the summer signings we were expecting more and the longer this losing streak goes on the more I will think that Liam is not up to the task at this level. Oxford will be well up for this match due to LM's rapid departure and the rancour surrounding his joining Bristol City and I remember a game versus them many years ago when we were thumped 0-4 ending with a loud chorus of boos - will this Saturday be the same?????

I fear it may, I sincerely hope it doesn’t and we can use it as a platform to launch our revival.

That’s the only solution to prevent weakening midfield or defence. Move Twine central and Bird back (where they are supposed to play) and use Armstrong out left Sykes/ Yu/ Earthy right. And leave Bird, Knight, Williams fighting for central midfield and defence as it is.
However we are then trying to use Armstrong for 90 minutes which QPR fans says he can’t do as he runs himself into ground.
Will we beat Oxford? I think we will, we’ve been here before on two away defeats and bounced back.

Or when Armstrong tires bring on Mehmeti, different player altogether but may be ok for 20 mins against a tiring defence

not the case at all, in fact a rather constricted view! bit like the "if only we scored those 3 missed chances / had the penalty not been against as it was a dodgy decision or ? ... ....... we could have won 3-0"

WHEN something get / changes all that happens from that point, it happens , as it is what happens!

Should we play 2 strikers and change to a 4 - 4 - 2 / or 3 -5 - 2 ... the opposition may not score should we score first maybe! and they become more open trying to get at least a draw ... no one will ever know the difference they see what happens with the moment in time.

Granted if we started with 2 and lost 3-0 what is to say starting with 1 we didnt lose 5 - 0 ... or the other way round!

I think you missed the point, if we play with 2 strikers rather than 1, we either have to have fewer midfielders or defenders.

Another set up-would mean Tanner would need to get forward more though

I think our mindset is as important as any set up.
Oxford are buoyant enjoying a great start to their season and the club, players and fans, are desperate to get one over on Manning.
It will be interesting to see how our players react and perform tomorrow. Will Manning have been able to rid them of the Derby and Blackburn games ?
Tomorrow's game might tell us a little more about LM.

I think you are spot on there Redprintt as it has to be considered as a vital game in our season as well as a major game for LM against his former team. It is almost as if we have returned to a point where our manager doesn't seem to know his best formation or set-up which has to bring his managerial credentials to the fore, which has been the case with some previous managers. After seeing what I believed was a shift in our playing style early on during Liam's tenure I think the wheels have fallen off that momentum and unless a major uptick occurs soon we could be cannon fodder for the lower parts of the Championship. The flowing style that was evident has disappeared and we are now a team that seems easily beaten in games that we performed abysmally to say the least. I am looking forward to tomorrow's game because it should truly allow us to evaluate whether or not we can continue with LM as our manager because in my books he hasn't proved himself to be capable of changing a losing mentality or squad formations etc. It has to be considered to be a critical match, even so early in the season, because all of the signs are there that we have seen many times before and allowed to fester with almost dire consequences on occasion. Action is needed now and who will it be to make that happen is the big question? Liam or our management hierarchy?

that is pretty obvious well spotted .. but the point is you change the formation to score more goals ...SO whilst scoring more you are likely to change the whole picture of the game so might get away with the fact you are a defender short as one of their players need to cover the other striker so less likely they have the ability to go forward! ..... start looking at 2D or 3D thinking!

Who do you bring on up front if this doesn’t work to change the game in the second half of these 2 start?

we will have had a little more time to adjust loss via injury, now need to adopt / adapt to available players .oxford scored 9 v our 6 and conceeded 6 v our 11 HOWEVER the games lost were both away! 2-1 @ Blackburn & 3 -2 @ Coventry [ also lost 1-0 away LC]

we have this awful record though of stopping other teams bad runs!!!!!!!!!

Or they just take advantage of the extra midfield to control midfield and score themselves, that’s the problem, and why most teams these days use one up front.
