How many times over the years has Joe Root hauled England out of trouble? He is now 33 and cannot go on forever unfortunately so they had better start training somebody else to bat properly to take his place.

Bizarre or p*ss poor batting? England need to get the top order batting sorted out - easier said than done I accept - but unreliable openers and number 3 cannot continue. They cannot always rely on Root and Brook to bail them out.

Where do we begin? Root now has the most centuries by an England batter. He is almost certainly soon to score the most runs by an England batter, possibly followed by the most by anyone (Tendulkar) in history. But yesterday he took his 200th catch, a record for England, with the most ever at 210, by Dravid, so would expect him to pass that as well.

 

And he can bowl spin as well very effectively. Yorkshire have produced great cricketers in the past but Joe Root is something else.

 

He has about 70 wickets I believe, with a best of five for about eight from memory.
