in the end guys he's "only" a holding midfielder ok ok so we all know chelsea fall apart without essien and mikel is muck etc etc but kenny will be the first to say its about the guys on the pitch nto the guys i nthe stand. Gerrard isn't missed but if he ever gets fit this is a role he can play.... bringing shelvey back for me signaled this was coming so we've got a full squad and as others have said spearing can play a bit.
I'm not interested in an expensive stop-gap. Either they're Liverpool quality, or they aren't. If they're 'veteran', they are likely to want top $$$ for their last 'big-money' move - I'd rather spend it on a top young player in the Summer. I have faith that between them, Hendo, Jay, Charlie, Jonjo and Stevie can provide suitable cover, albeit not a replacement service - players with the energy, technical ability and desire to work that hard are few and far between.
Its gotta be, lets see how Hendo and Spearing do while Stevies out, if it aint workin for any of them, we may have to go and get someone in Jan.I suspect one of the 3 above will manage to do a job, even though Lucas has been very good this season, and immense the last month
gutted for lucus, however this to me is an opertunity to play a more attacking midfield which i think could help us against lower teams. It might cost us in the bigger clashes where we like to dominate the midfield but i still think we will still have a better mid than most of the top teams. This may be controversial, but i think KK made a mistake playing lucas in the Chelsea game, he rested nearly everbody else and lucas has one of the highest workrates around, Man city and Chelsea in 48hours would be a push for anyone and it proved here to be too much!!!!
There's an awful lot of new science around now. I sincerely hope for him and us that he makes a total recovery
Someone brought up the chance of losing Lucas just a few days ago I'm sure, they pointed out the lack of cover we have for him, hopefully Spearing can prove them wrong
That will be HIS worry at the mo.Not when he comes back , he will just wanna make sure that when he does come back he is 100%. This is certainly an injury where you relying on the medics to do a good job
If you look at any players of the calibre of Lucas, you'll find direct replacements hard to find within the same team, wherever on the field they may play. You seldom have two absolute top performers in the same position and at the same club, because they'll both want the shirt. Spearing did a top job last season once he got into his stride and I fully expect him to be at a better level than last season. He may not be Lucas, but who is? I recently read an article which compared Lucas very favourably with his predecessor in the holding role, Masch, pointing out Masch's limited technical ability on the ball and highlighting Lucas' workrate, tackling and distribution. When you recall how much we thought we'd miss Masch when he left (I thought he'd be a big hole to fill and certainly at the time didn't have Lucas down to fill it), Lucas has more than occupied the position until another player was signed (anyone even thinking of saying 'Poulsen' - wash out your mouth!!) - he has molded it into a Lucas-shaped position to the extent that its hard to imagine another player doing so well, hence the (slight) panic over what KK should do to fill it. I think we have sufficient numbers to cover at the moment. I think our lads have the ability to cope without Lucas, but the midfield will have to operate slightly differently...
SPEARING is a good player but stiil young and cannot be compared with Luca's level at the moment. He could be a short term solution till Janaury transfer market. It is good if he can get the opprtunity. It would be good if Gerrard can come back before Christmas/ New year fixtures. Take your chance SPEARING
I know it's a bit unfair on Spearing to compare him to Lord Lucas but I was impressed with Spearing last season, when he was called on he did'nt dissapoint.
