Jack Halford, Brian Lane and Gerry Standing are the three original retired detectives in the BBC series "New Tricks". They are named as such because the original writers, West Brom fans, used to go to home games at the Halford Lane end, and stood (Halford Lane standing).
The former That's Life presenter, Kieran Prendiville, (a massive Spur) used to use lesser known Spurs' players' names in The Bill back in the 80's. Perpetrators were named John Pratt, Mike England, John Duncan, etc. Somewhat bizarrely, a long-term character in the hit series The Mentalist was named Osvaldo Ardiles. I've yet to discover why?
Maybe old news, so apologies if so, but there's a story going round that Bentancur is going to be charged by the FA(?) and facing a 6-9 game ban for the off-the-cuff remark about Sonny a couple of months back. Yes, it was inappropriate and certainly not funny, but FFS, Sonny has publicly moved on from it and the action is being generated by public complaints. And that punishment appears to be ludicrously disproportionate when you see career-ending assaults getting 3 match bans and clubs walking free from basically operating corrupt business practices.
It’s a crazy world we live in. Words get you punished more than actions. That said, he was stupid to say what he did.
Not relevant to why you've posted this, but why are there two pints in the bottom corner? I'm familiar with their use to distinguish pub streams from normal TV ones, but two vs one and one thicker? New to me.
The halo would surely be more appropriate over a Southampton player? please log in to view this image
The FA have decided not to act in that matter. They have decided it doesn't count because he was on international duty at the time. FIFA could still do, but we know how seriously FIFA takes racism, right? Anyone else see this ending with a Bentancur six match ban and Fernandez missing the next international friendly.
Yeah, he seemed to come out of nowhere, scored 6 at a World Cup, then dropped back off again. Looks like he had a fantastic year in the J-League in 1995, though. 31 in 34 games. Watching Shilton trying to save a penalty is still painful.
