Slutsky was a lot better than some gave him credit for and the attacking play was very good. The problem was we couldn't defend and the lads weren't fit, I'm sure there was the stat that we'd have been in/near top 6 if the game was 80 minutes long. It was a very similar job to TW, we signed a lot of players late who weren't fit/match fit. It was just too big a job for him.
I agree, I enjoyed the football under Slutsky for the most part, just not the results. I do seem to remember being hard done by in a lot of the games and a little disappointed when he left. I probably was quite happy at the time though and called him a useless **** no doubt.
Slutsky I think would have been absolutely fine if he'd had the proper structure around him. He'd managed CSKA Moscow in the CL, he wasn't some slouch from the second division in Germany. He's had a 40%+ win record everywhere he's been since leaving us. Looks like he's in with a shout of winning the CSL with Shanghai Shenhua in his first season with them.
Yes, I knew that, I was really just pointing out the situation going forward rather than just for the Stoke game, that the forwards and back line are more or less sorted, but the real conundrum is midfield, and TW needs time to find his best options there.
0-3.. Dressing room gone... ps....Stoke play tonight, home to Fleetwood in League Cup... Can Fleetwood do it on a cold Tuesday night in Stoke? I bet you we can't do it on a Friday.
Season starts properly from here for me now in terms of judging and needing to see improvements on the pitch and I fancy us to win. 'New manager bounce' cancelled out by the 'its typical we lose to the team that haven't won a game yet effect'. I actually thought we looked pretty good in the first 14mins before the calamity, we were creating, getting forward, looked the better team and Kamara should have shot, shame we didn't get to see how the game would have played out had we taken the lead.
I think that second paragraph is absolutely right, but I don't think it's just a one-off or unfortunate that it played out that way. I think it's actually particularly worrying that we lost so comprehensively whilst actually playing pretty well in some ways. I don't think it was an off day. I do partially see what Tim meant when he says we played well, but we totally let ourselves down in other ways such as winning our duels in key moments, and it meant we were nowhere near getting a result. I really hope he is working on that side of it this week because we'll get comprehensively beaten again at Stoke if we're just going to turn up, only worry about our passing and get brushed off the ball all the time.
It's a toss of a coin for watching City or watching Rervers on Friday evening. I will plump for Rervers. At least there will be some sort of enjoyment rather than seeing City getting a shafting.
Interested to see how that goes, no managerial experience but, along with his team, good knowledge of the Championship. Complete opposite of our Tim.
I just hope we get a performance and 3 points on Friday coz I'm left dumbfounded reading the utter ****e being posted on various threads these past few days about our owner, our coach and even some of our players. 21 out. Several signings haven't been here 5 mins. Some haven't even started a game yet! We've just lost to a relegated side and a promotion favourite; lost but not like we got battered even. Get a f'ing grip.
Go for a walk and smell the coffee old shag. A goal would be like hitting the jackpot at the moment. We are miles away from looking a threat. Rant over. Vern.
