    Its great for the city
As whether you like coldplay or not

Theyre one of the biggest bands on the planet

    My question is though
Why doesnt kc have gigs anymore?

    Its bad management imo

KC definitely should have gigs again, I loved it when I went to see R.E.M. had a great night.

It’s combination of factors, historically gigs at the MKM have lost money through poor bookings and bad promotion, that’s not to say they couldn’t make money.

But most importantly they have a tiny window to host them in the summer as it’s used year round, there’s barely enough time for routine pitch maintenance as it is.

For Coldplay, they wanted a small stadium as these are warm up shows for the run of Wembley dates, anything the size of the MKM wasn’t a consideration.

    Makes sense

Think a small stadium will make a great coldplay concert

According to this 10% of takings of Craven Park and Wembley gigs goes to small venues to help keep them going, well done Coldplay.

(with 50 per cent of the Hull tickets available only to local residents)

Also, 50 per cent of the tickets to the gigs in Hill (the band’s first ever concerts in the city) will sold to local fans with HU, YO, DN or LN postcode via Ticketmaster on Thursday September 26 at 6pm.

'The band also confirmed half of the tickets for the Hull shows would go to local fans, dependent on them having an HU, YO, DN or LN postcode, to mark their first concert in the city'.

Coldplay are undeniably a huge band, yet I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who would claim to be a fan of theirs <laugh>

    Mad.

After the general and pre-sales, Coldplay will make a limited number of ‘Infinity Tickets’ available for the shows via Ticketmaster at 12pm on Friday November 22, affordably priced at just £20 per ticket but limited to two tickets per purchaser and must be bought in pairs.

Better than the band themselves scalping extra cash through surge pricing IMHO

You’re right, but it’s very different times now.

Live music, for well known bands anyway, is how they make their money and so they’ll do much more promotion etc and large events seem to be thriving (look at the Mankers for a kick off)

MKM stopped gigs at the wrong time I think

How come Coldplay have chosen Hull for these small scale local gigs anyway? Is there a reason or a theme behind it?

Nice to see them donating to grassroots venues, Enter Shikari also do a lot of fundraising for them too.

50% of the tickets for the Hull shows will go to local fans (You might not define wider than HU, into YO, DN & LN postcodes local, but they seem to and it surely helps avoid bot ticket touting at least and is decent I think)

I was sceptical about Coldplay but ended up going to this last tour twice (and I paid for the tickets, no freebies!). On both occasions it was a cracking night out. I’d only been to a Wembley once before (U2 Joshua Tree tour in 87 I think), and mostly go to smaller local gigs where I live. Coldplay are one of those groups whose songs you’re likely to know and who put the work in to entertain you. Look at how many albums and tickets they’ve sold worldwide and consider what a coup this announcement is.

If YO is not local then City have a lot of non locals supporting them.
