You know, unless you're really dim, and I know that's not what he wants (Rosenior style endless ball retention passing etc) and not what he was meaning about the performance in his post match comments. And no we didn't do that "from every ****ing corner until they scored" at all. His short corners, whether we like them or not, are not the same as 2 passes and it's back to the keeper. Let's not drag this absolute nonsense on. Come back to me in say a couple of months and with a serious face tell me that "this is exactly what Walter wants us to do" (mind-numbing ball retention stuff under Rosenior) and that Walterball is like Rosieball. Deal? I guarantee you won't be. In the meantime, enjoy your day.
If this isn't what Walter wants us to do he's gone about it in an absolutely terrible way. Why are we playing constant short corners that amount to nothing, a clear switch in tactic, if that's not what he wants them to do? Why are we seeing Pandur pass to Coyle who passes to Jones who passes to Pandur who passes to Coyle who passes to McLoughlin who hits it long to turn it over if that's not what he wants us to do? Why is he coming out saying that apart from the goals we conceded he was really happy with the performance if we weren't doing exactly what he wanted us to do? Come on lad.
Ok "lad". So you are dim. Let's please just keep it to this ......
Fair enough. You've now pinned your colours very firmly to the mast. No ambiguity whatsoever about that. I sort of get why some are currently concerned, but I remain in the opposite camp that it will be fine, that it's far far too early to judge and to be making such predictions, that several are going to look rather silly in a few months time, etc. I suspect somebody on here is keeping a log of some of the bold comments some are making on here. Could be very interesting (and funny) going back to them later on. But who knows. Only time will tell. No doubt we'll come back to it.
And you'll be just as happy to go back over the old posts if he turns out to be right of course. You won't be dismissing it with "ah that's all in the past now", "let it go", etc.
I 100% guarantee I won't be saying that, and I'll be more than ok with anyone pulling up my old posts (believing Walter needs more time, that my feeling is we'll be fine, etc). Unlike some I am absolutely fine with holding my hands up and saying "yep, I got it wrong on that one". It wouldn't be the first time for me doing that on here (I know it's hard to believe I could be wrong ). And you, and Syd, ? Deal?
Oh but when I went back on howdens posts during the transfer window I was called all names under the sun. Funny how it works when the shoes on the other foot. I'm not saying at this moment I want him out I can just see the writing on the wall as I did with shota after a similar number of games with a similarly new squad.
It's the same strategy time and again from the same group. "Wait till mid august" became "wait till the end of the window" became "wait till January" and by then it'll be "who cares what was said six months ago stop pulling up old posts for point scoring".
I try to be aware of my own bias, in this case I lay a great value on doing something different, so what Walterball could become greatly appeals to me and so I probably hold too much positive regard. Partly why I'm not desperately defending every unreasonably (my opinion) negative post on here. Whats your realistic/reasonable view on a fair amount of time to judge given the very real circumstances he's had to work with? Would that time come with positive regard at all or will every bad thing be pounced and used to beat him.
I've said it's until the end of September for me, call it the Norwich game. I think there's another international break then? That's 9 games which seems pretty close to everyone's magic number of 10. But if stoke beat us 2/3-0 and we see a similar level of performance I'll struggle to have much optimism of things changing. IF we see a strong, positive performance or at least tangible signs of improvement then maybe there's hope. Let's remember shota had a similar number of new signings and was gone after ten games (and he started the season with 3 wins in 6!), so the "give him time for the signings to bed in" excuse didn't work then. Granted he'd joined during the previous season which actually could be argued to have bought him extra time since we didn't look terrible that previous season.
Similar to me Ernie. Went into a steam filled room, removed all my clothes, laid down then fell asleep. When I woke up fully relaxed and rejuvenated I realised that I was in Cave Street chippy.
Whoa, hang on a minute. This was me, you and PLT. I'm not part of any group. Don't put me in one thanks. I'm not saying "wait till January" or "who cares what was said six months ago" etc. It was you that definitively stated "he'll be gone by then" in reply to my 'couple of months'. Given that's what you clearly posted, I take it that's what you think. As I said, let's come back to it in a couple of months. ..... Deal?
