Once they eventually get out there the first function is mobility testing of the suit.

Edit: I've heard the new astronaut suits are a lot slimmer with new joints, they are designed with the idea that they can be much more easily mass produced, unlike the old astronaut suit which required a lot more specialist production.

Hatch does auto open, but it will require manual pressure by Jared to break the seal, stitching as they called it for the first attempt. Depressurising is slowing down (that's normal), it all takes time...23 mins so far..2 psia needs to be under 1. PSIA stands for "Pounds per Square Inch Absolute." Absolute pressure is pressure relative to zero or absolute vacuum.

He turned the crank (good old human technology lol) and giving it some pushes/pull to get some movement, unlatches hatch, approved to open the hatch and told to do it manually, video cut, but job a goodun. Forward opening hatch now inside the craft.

So SpaceX wasn't designed for a space walk, therefore it does not have an airlock chamber, which is why they have to wait for the depressurisation and why the other astronauts have to remain in their space suits. Both the opening of the hatch and closing it again has a high risk of danger the same as that experienced by divers. They did give the reason why it was designed like this but he was talking too fast for my brain to absorb all the info.

    Some bits I googled...

A unique aspect of the spacewalk is that the Dragon spacecraft, called Resilience, does not have an airlock, which is a sealed room between the doorway into the vacuum outside and the rest of the spacecraft.

Normally the airlock is depressurised before the astronauts step in and out, but in the case of Resilience, the entire craft will have to be depressurised and the non-spacewalking astronauts will have to be fully suited up.

The spacecraft has been adapted to withstand the vacuum. Extra nitrogen and oxygen tanks have been installed and all four astronauts will wear EVA suits, although only two will exit the spacecraft. The mission will therefore break the record for the most people in the vacuum of space at once.

The flight team has taken the challenge as an opportunity to do tests on the impact of decompression sickness, also known as the “bends” and the blurry vision astronauts can sometimes experience in space called spaceflight associated neuro-ocular syndrome.

Tests on the impact of radiation from the Van Allen belts as well as the spacewalk are intended to lay the ground for further high-altitude missions by the private sector possibly to the Moon or Mars.

There are an awful lot of firsts for the rookie crew to achieve. Isaacman has been in space only once before and the other three have never flown in space.

“There’s a feeling that there are a great many risks here,” according to Dr Adam Baker, a rocket propulsion specialist at Cranfield University.

“They have set themselves a lot of ambitious objectives and they have relatively limited spaceflight experience.”

“But in counter to that, they have spent several thousand hours simulating the mission. So, they are doing their best to mitigate the risks.”

If the mission is a success, some analysts believe that it will be the start of an explosion of ever greater and cheaper private sector missions taking more people further than government space agencies have.

Live interview on SKY News with the two astronauts on the International Space Station, stranded up there for eight months, questions from various news sources. They are very positive and professional in their answers, probably to be expected, you have to have the right mindset to be up there. Covered topics about how they felt when they realised they couldn't come home and the decisions that were made and why, along with talking about their faith (religion) Butch Wimore did give a passage from his faith for people to look up, but I couldn't register it quick enough what he said to look up. Been on a while now, but interview still going with Suni Willaims and Butch Wilmore, I think there are four other astronauts with them, I can see a female in the background.

Not sure if it's true but I think sometimes that people might think you don't believe in religion or god if you believe in space exploration, I feel personally it's quite the opposite, it makes you appreciate life even more and the state of being.

Yeah the picture quality was poor, but you have to remember some of that footage was from helmet cams, have astronauts ever done that before and it was a type of craft that we haven't seen since the apollo's and I've seen them in real life and they look well prehistoric. It does make you think, there is no way this shhite went up there lol.

They are very restrained in what they can do, because there is no airlock to protect them, so they are at risk of the the bends and worse. Also they are new suits, cheaper and easier to manufacture, so not specialist made suits like we've previously seen, so there first task out on the walk was to test the movement in them, if you watch with the sound on, you can hear that discussion taking place.

It's all about getting costs down, so they can mass produce in the future, from crafts to suits. Suppose the same in someways like they did with air travel.
