Yeah I'm not calling for him to be our manager, I just agreed with what he said. Although I'm not too sure where the snobbery towards him in general comes from. Given RM hasn't got it in him to win a PL game we could do worse than Alladyce
I had to go out straight after FT so didn't see any post match stuff. Did Martin shed any light on the penalty confusion?
Him or Moyes would be a good shout tbh. Just someone sensible with some experience that would sign some actual premier league players and coach a defence. Would take their unglamorous football with some wins over getting pumped every week. If we lose to Ipswich - especially if we get caught out playing it around at the back again - I think Martin’s position becomes untenable
Nothing at all. He’s a decent bloke and I still hope he can turn it around. The Wembley win was amazing. But the evidence so far is that he’s completely out of his depth
I just can’t see how anyone couldn’t have predicted this start and possibly season, it was just so blatantly obvious. Im very laid back about the season, possibly because I’ve seen it coming from about this time last year. Martins future will be decided by the fans I think, if they stick with him in the main then I think he sees out the season regardless of relegation/points total. If they turn on him Jones style then he will be gone, probably too late for anyone to keep us up. I think I would quite enjoy seeing his reaction to “Russell Martin, your football is ****” chants though
And that's just it. I think people jump on Alladyce/Moyes as being some sort of archaic anti-football managers just because it's seen as the right thing to do. Cool managers play like Pep, anything else is so 1990s. Possession at all costs football is boring at the best of times, even an absolutely amazing squad of players such as Spain makes it boring, it's ****ing suicidal trying to do it on a shoestring budget. Now SR aren't stupid. They're completely and utterly all in on this style of play, and even if it wasn't RM it'd be someone with the same philosophy. Why? Because that's how to highlight players to bigger clubs. The sooner Saints fans realise that the club is a vehicle for selling players/managers the easier it'll be. SR don't give a **** what league we're in, or if we're successful they care that Flynn Downes can play in a system that the top clubs use. Excellent news when demanding his transfer fee. That's why we're buying ****e untested players, drilling every last ounce of individuality out of them, getting them to play the "right" way in the hope a big club comes calling. What amazing owners eh?
I agree actually, I think fans will be very patient tbh. And I can actually see the board sticking with him for the whole season regardless of what happens. Who knows, maybe that’s the right thing to do to build some consistency at the club. It’s very difficult to know for sure if any manager could turn this into a winning PL team. There are so few goal scorers
I actually agree with you to a degree, but in a different way. SR and other owners aren’t stupid, they know that unless you are one of about 6 teams you have next to zero chance of winning anything. So the best thing to keep fans lapping up the product and ignoring the fact that football is completely pointless as a competition is to play a style that most people find entertaining. That is why everyone plays the whole play out from the back and short passing rather than the older hoof it long when the playing field between clubs was more even than today.
Ummm! Pity that. I think they have recruited better than us and they will be confident having beaten us twice last season To make matters worse Forest are winning at Anfield
It's been one match with a brand new young midfield and attack, how about wait and see what develops huh? I was hopeful of a result today but I wasn't expecting it, it might take a few matches or it might never come but it's way too early for any kneejerk reaction with the manager yet. We started slowly but achieved our aim last season with a new team. I'm glad that some of you weren't supporting the club in 1974. I might never have witnessed our golden era.
I don't know. I think way more people find possession football boring then there are those who like it
I agree with your exception for this season and I to feel pretty relaxed. It’s only football after all.
Really amuses me why that was RM fault, picked the right formation and the best players available. Played well for 30 minutes until Archer messed up and the teams morale dropped and the team with the better players took advantage. Russ didnt mess up the penalty for goodness sake so why is it his fault we lost? Most players were ok, worst KWP performance I have seen, BBD was useless, Archer is what we know he is (doesn’t score many goals). Highlights all came from Dibling Never a sending off Andy Townsend is a pr*ck and constantly having a go
Tbh, not just him. One or more players seem to be too judging from the information I’m reading on here. My first match is Everton at home, I hope that by then he is still very much our manager and that some of our talent realises that they can play in the PL to bring about a home win.
