Apparently last time this happened, June this year, one of the cruise boats got into trouble and they had to evacuate 140 people. I am a crap swimmer so would not have been happy if that had happened again, unless I had time to inflate my water wings!
BREAKING: It’s been confirmed that the most likely outcome of Manchester City’s FFP hearing starting on Monday will be a 30 point deduction for the 2024/25 season. Reacting to the news, head coach Pep Guardiola said, ‘It’s not so bad I guess. At least we will still finish above Spurs.’
Billy Bremner: "I remember him telling me a story once. He asked Alf, he says, 'Alf, tell me, you picked me sort of later on in my career for England. Was there a particular reason? Was there some greatness in me that a lot of people didn't realize before?' And Alf says, 'Well, to be fair, Jackie, I've got a right-back who’s never there. He keeps wandering off all the time. Then I've got the left-back, he's never there either, always wandering off too. Then I've got God—Bobby Moore—he was supposed to be at centre-back, but he's never there; he does his own thing. And then there’s you, Jackie, you’re a big, lazy swine. You never leave the middle.'"
The reason it was cancelled was the Hungarian government closing the river berths. I wonder if they had not done so would the travel company have let us go and we would have just holidayed in a disaster zone!
They offered us lots of alternatives once the river cruise was cancelled, I had to explain to them that an all inclusive 2 star hotel in Turkey, "within walking distance of all the biggest clubs", was not that appealing to a couple of our age who last went into a club when Saturday Night Fever was all the rage and I owned a white suit! We took a refund and have booked a few days away in this country and will rebook the river cruise for next year. We have now tried to visit Vienna 4 times and all have been cancelled by matters beyond our control, I am getting the feeling the Waltz lessons have been wasted
I spent New Years Eve in Vienna a few years back. Its a big thing there. They have a thing called Silvesterpfad, which is a like a trail you follow round the city centre and as you go round there is live music, food, drink (lots of gluhwein) and entertainment. There is no fee for attending or anything. There are also lots of paid classical music concerts going on as well on the same night in various concert halls and churches. We went to one in a church and it was brilliant. On another night, we went to the Vienna Opera and saw Hansel and Gretal. If you like cake and tortes (especially chocolate ones) its a great place to go!

Sad news..........Toto Schillaci has died aged only 59 ......RIP Great memories of Italia 90', this guy was dynamite.
Well just when I thought this 7 day break from work could not get any worse. After the Danube cruise was cancelled we got a full refund and decided to visit York for 3 days as it is one of our favourite UK cities. Second day in I got a phone call from my Mum to tell me my Dad had died. He was 92 and in a nursing home with Vascular Parkinsons, but the doctor had advised he could easily live another year or so. He lasted 2 weeks after diagnosis. I don't think I will book any holidays again.
