Interesting story from WWII, and some of the beer was "donated" by Strong's Brewery in Romsey, Hampshire, close to where I was brought up in Andover, where my Kilburn raised Dad (and WWI Royal Engineers Grandfather) serving in the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) Regiment in WWII met my Mum and married her December 20th 1941.

Another match against the canaries, another lunch!!

New potatoes roasted in sunflower oil, garlic and rosemary then topped with a fresh crab, shallot, red chilli and coriander salsa.

Served with a rocket salad and drizzled with lime juice. Lovely.

Hopefully washed down with 3 points shortly!!

    Saturdays lunch.

    Huevas A La Flamenca.

My favourite kind of dish. Garlic, onion, peas, green beans and serrano ham cooked in a plum tomato and smoked paprika sauce.

Finished with 4 eggs cooked in the sauce, roasted red pepper, slices of chorizo and a sprinkle of flat-leaf parsley.

Served in the pan along with garlic-infused griddled bread and a cold glass of lemonade.

Bloody good, even if i do say so myself!!

Something a little different for sunday breakfast in the sunshine today.

    Mediterranean Style Eggy Vegetable Toast.

Fresh loaf topped with an egg, sweet paprika and chilli flake mixture and then baked with cherry tomatoes, spring onions, courgette, mixed bell peppers, parsley and feta.

    Served with a nice cuppa.

This was lush and sets you up beautifully for the day ahead!!

I make something similar, which I adapted from a Jamie Oliver cookbook.

    https://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/eggs-recipes/breakfast-eggy-crumpets/

Basically eggy bread but crumpets instead of bread, with cheese, chillis and paprika added, with fresh coriander sprinkled on top once it's all fried up...love it

So while my wifes away for a few days, i get to cook with some ingredients that she wouldn't touch in a month of sundays.

Monday evening - Shrimp Fra Diavolo.

Large shrimp cooked in a plum tomato, tomato puree, white onion, garlic and white wine sauce seasoned with dried oregano, paprika, chilli flakes, sea salt and black pepper. Topped with parsley.

    Served on fresh linguine.

A relatively quick dish, nice for a change. Though i feel i may have under-done it with the chilli. It could have done with just a tad more heat.

Chicken souvlaki with roasted baby potatoes and feta.

Chicken breasts marinaded in lemon juice, lemon zest, balsamic vinegar, oregano, dill, shallots, garlic, chilli flakes and smoked paprika.

Then roasted with baby potatoes, onion and red pepper.

Topped with toasted pine nuts, green olives, feta cubes and sun-dried tomatoes all mixed in the tomato oil. Then sprinkled with chopped coriander and a pinch more dill.

Served with a garlic infused greek yoghurt.

(And a cheeky glass of white wine!)

Oooh this was bloody nice!! Very flavoursome with just a nice little kick of heat. Recommended!

Bloody tapas night for 7 tonight! Aaarggh

I’d just get a kebab in this situation. Fair play.

Replied to the wrong post. Can’t change it. Meh.

    Sunday....Back to the curries!!

    Punjabi Ginger Chicken Curry.

Chicken thighs cooked in plenty of rapeseed oil with red onion, cinnamon, garlic/ginger paste, green chillies and LOTS of fresh chopped ginger.

Topped up with chopped tomatoes, red chilli flakes, turmeric, cumin, coriander seeds and kashmiri chilli powder.

Finished with natural yoghurt, fenugreek leaves, chopped coriander, black pepper and more julienned ginger.

Served with basmati rice and plain naans.

This is a lovely curry. Gives a nice, residual warmth at the back of the throat from the ginger, but not oppressive at all. If you like warm but not hot curries, definitely recommend this one.

    Nice.

We're cooking a lot of tandoori at the moment. Big fad locally just now, a shop in Wishaw has developed a tandoori marinade, and it's ****ing amazing!

    Screenshot_20241013_194640_Opera.jpg

It blows every other marinade I've ever used out the water

    Screenshot_20241013_194252_WhatsApp.jpg

Chicken Tikka kebabs with wild rice and grains...served with a mango and mint dip as well as a tikka yoghurt dip.

The shops that sell the marinade sell out in no time!!

My latest purchase. The ginger curry is the first i've cooked from it.

This guys curry books are fabulous, one of my go to chefs. I have 6 of his books, highly recommend The Bible and One-Pot editions if you're unfamiliar with Dan.

Sunday lunch today - Hoppel Poppel.

    A traditional, german farmers, frittata-style break-time meal.

White onions, pre-boiled diced potatoes and chopped frankfurters fried off in butter with red and green peppers.

Then cooked in an egg, double cream, chives, salt and pepper mixture.

Finished with mozzarella melted through the egg mix and topped with extra chives.

Similar to a scramlet, the browned Franks and Mozzarella in this really make it quite special.

Simple, very tasty and filling, perfect for a wintery afternoon. Could eat this for hours!
