There was one instance where their keeper run out to put it out for a throw in.The ball boy, unlike some of the useless sods we have had, immediately threw the ball to our player. We could have taken a quick throw in and put them under pressure with their keeper out of position and scrambling back to goal. What did we do? Our player who the ball was thrown to stopped, then waited for another player to amble up and gave the ball to him by which time they had everybody back. Whose fault was that? Don’t think Tim will have told them to **** about like that,
Walter, for all his faults, knows this. He said on the radio after the game that we desperately need Hughes in there
Everytime I see Sean Maka bombing forward to join the attack or head to left wing, I have palpitations, as does Alfie Jones, who is usually left exposed at the back! To be homest, Jones is a shadow of the player he was last season for us, you can see he isn't comfortable in the new system.
Yeah true..I thought he was good when he came here with Ipswich....Tonight he played like a second rate journeyman....Not impressed by the blunts, but they didn't have to be any good to beat us....
Fanny of the month prize goes to… Brady. Nithing about the philosophy or system. Throw 12 new players together who have been here a few weeks and expect them to perform miracles. yes it wasn’t pretty or entertaining but we are working progress and will get better in time. Wouldn’t surprise me if we get our first win against Stoke.
Also, I’ve been hoping Giles’ attitude in general would improve at some point but it’s clear as day he does want to play for Hull City. Defensively, he’s average or even below that, can’t head a ball properly if his life depended on it and his crossing, supposedly his best quality, is so ****ing underwhelming. Attitude and body language stinks. The club are mainly to blame though for how they structured this loan with option/obligation/whatever the **** it was.
At the moment it's a turd, I was hoping over the last couple of weeks it would have been polished, it hasn't, I suspect the next 2 games are crucial as after that our opposition gets tougher and at that point it will hit the fans...
We look susceptible to conceding soft goals every game and we don’t look like scoring. It’s not a good combination.
Did TW say Baz Cooper reports on Twitter, that he 'was proud of the performance tonight'...If true I find that incredible and incredibly troubling.
You’ll questioning my sanity after this post, but I don’t think we were actually that bad. There seemed to be a more of plan and a 4/5 times we broke the lines into midfield and created a few attacks I could see an emergence of a style of play. I think the biggest problem is breaking that pass into midfield and the main worry is we never seem to find it, mainly because our two midfielders (Mehlem and Omur) are pinned on their back line, or pushed out wide. It seems to be an obvious plan as it doesn’t matter if it’s Zambrano or Burns they seem all alone half the game. You can’t play swift incisive passes in midfield if they are 30/40 yards from each other. Omur looked better today but he needs the whole freedom of the pitch to float around and help the play. Anyway onto the negatives. Forget the type of corner we play. Why is our whole side in their 3rd of the pitch from a corner. At least leave someone near the half way line, as an out ball or just as a defensive measure. The nativity of it all is poor. I’d hate to be a centre half in ‘Walter’ ball you spend half the game running around with the ball looking for a pass. Also our goalkeeper made 49 passes the first half. Teams are finding it easy to play against as all they have to do is win the ball in their own half and push 3/4 men forward on a break and it’s an overload, or press on a goal kick and they know exactly who we will pass the ball too. Overall though I don’t really expect any more at this stage, we’ve assembled 19 players together in effectively a month, or a bit more. It will take 2/3 months. He’s obviously going to have to pick up some points soon but the turn around is squad numbers it’s impossible to expect a great lot.
That was very much his post match interview, I understand he has to say this and believe in his system, but his recollection was not the game I saw...
Lots of things about that were quite worrying. Tactically, it still feels like we're obsessing over re-imagining our buildup play, which was never the problem, but bemoaning the fact that our final ball, crossing and chance creation is terrible and has been for ages, while seemingly doing nothing to improve that. Walter seems convinced that that was a good performance, purely because of the passing being conformant to his style. He didn't seem at all bothered about how physically weak we were. Seems like he's come in with his idealistic principles and wants to insist this is how it'll work, but was completely unprepared for the physical battle that playing Sheffield United always inevitably is, and doesn't seem at all bothered by how embarrassingly we lost that battle. You could see from early on that we wanted the ref to help us out when they were roughing us up, but he wasn't convinced, and Millar getting mugged by Moore for the second goal summed it up. Tim needs to live in the real world and address the challenges we face, not just assume that a particular style of passing will be the answer to everything. Individually, it's difficult to understand what's going on with all the players we're signing and not using. The constant rotation of who plays in the DM role is alarming. Burns seemed to just stay completely uninvolved when we had possession, maybe that's an instruction? To me it doesn't make sense if he doesn't want them to show for the ball. But Walter seems constantly unhappy with whatever the player in that role does. I don't mind short corners at all. Especially against that team of big ****ers. Tonight it seemed that when the crowd started complaining about them the team just agreed and started sticking it in the mixer from them on, to no avail of course. 16 corners led to **** all. 10 shots led to 2 on target. Both of those stats seem to be consistent themes this season. I don't have the answers. Don't think anyone does. It really doesn't look good though. We look like a team that's naively brought in a foreign manager who himself is naive about the English game and we're just very easy to beat. We need major improvements or he'll be gone before the winter. We've seen it all before.
I can often be Mr doom and gloom but That wasn't as bad as some are making out imo, and those pining for Rosenior, I liked the guy but we turned out much worse performances than that earlier this season, Sheffield U are basically Millwall with talented players, bunch of big dirty ****s who can also play, there will be a fair number of teams who lose to them home and away this season. Ultimately we were architects of our own downfall, and shef u got a classic away win on the counter, but it was slightly heartening to see glimpses of what we could create and that header goes in, who knows, Belloumi and Kamara both off it, but that's their first game and they'll hopefully improve. That was Tim's first game with a full squad, let's judge him in a months time, and remember this time last year cov and Boro were both down the bottom after a pre season rebuild and they came back well.
He’ll be gone by the end of September it’s a pity sir Steve took the job at Blackpool cos he’d a loved coming back here and sorting this mess out
In hindsight the management dropped a big'un by bringing in a guy who has little idea of football at the level of the English championship. Similar happened to Slutsky and Shota..Sadly the club didn't learn the harsh lesson. I wish the guy all the success in the world and hope he's able to turn it around. Its got shades of Nigel Pearson in his first season. He was able to turn it around from January onwards, but he had a decent idea on how to do it. I sincerely hope Tim can do likewise not just for himself, but the owner as well.
Oh and on us losing the physical battle. Abu Kamara was worryingly soft and casual for someone we've spent big money on. Can't remember a City player looking as meek as that in a long time. We must've either not known how soft he'd be or not known how important physicality would be tonight. Either way, worryingly naive. Sorry to keep saying it but it just really doesn't make sense.
I really want him to do well just to piss that idiot from the HDM off, who seems to be gleefully sticking the boot in tonight. ****
