Primarily, the animals that are consumed in the Western world are Sheep, Pigs, Chickens and Cows. Those that we eat are the result of hundreds, even thousands of years of selective breeding and they don't exist in the same form in the wild. I find it hard to look at them as anything more than tools for our survival.

    Death ≠ pain and suffering.

If people didn't eat meat, then those animals would never even by alive in the first place.
Vegetarianism is clearly unethical, as you're eliminating the possible life of thousands of animals.
    Disgusting. <grr>

Those of who claim they will not eat "Halal" meat because it is cruel and unstunned, would you eat it if it was stunned?
As I read (but can't be bothered to confirm right now as I will be off to bed soon) that 90% of "Halal" meat in the UK is stunned.

I'm sure they are stunned when they realise what's about to happen to them.

the lions/tigers dont have the capacity to contemplate compassion for their prey. humans do, however, that is why we are top of the food chain and the dominant species on the planet <ok>

You've obviously never been down the pub when there's a few lions and tigers having a couple of pints and discussing how they're going to mug a couple of hyenas but leave the giraffes alone because they're a better laugh. They have compassion all right <Chippy's losing the plot smiley>
