Quite enjoyed Sunak visiting a care home to discuss it with pensioners who don’t pay their own fuel bills.
My mother is. Its something to do with her cashing in a **** post office pension she had early or some crap that amounted to a measly amount. Dont know all the ins and outs though. She gets £300 every other friday. She does get housing benefit and other **** though, so three quarters of her rent is paid and she gets a discount on her other bills I think like Council Tax, but payment wise, £600 a month is all she gets. Because of that she is ineligible for pension credit. Have told her to switch to Universal Credit, as she will get more but I think Housing benefit is removed for people on UC. Unless I am wrong, anyone know?
I expect a lot of women don't have full stamp, which might be the reason for not receiving a full pension. You can claim UC and Housing benefit at the same time, I think it's all interlinked and they talk to one another these days, so they will probably know how much she gets. No idea what they are eligible for though and amounts.
Pension with full stamp I'm sure is more than £600 though. Probably more £800+ (monthly) at a guess, anyone know?
not being funny but that seems a bit weird . Should get her to give you all the documentation and use a benefit calculator to check why she doesn't qualify for PC ..
My experience of dealing with Pensioners was trying to get accurate financial info out of them ranged from tricky to impossible .
Tell me about it. These old biddies are obstinate ****ers. Am sure I could help her increase her income if I had full clarification on her situation, but she never wants to go into it. My mother is the queen of procrastination..... Doesn't stop her bitching endlessly that she never has any money though ffs.
If this had been the Tories it would have kicked off bigtime, what happened to going after the millionaires and billionaires (wealth tax) which would have filled the financial black hole. I get everyone has to tighten their belt but this is a fooking arse about face way of going about it, which now will create more work for the benefit bodies due to people now signing up to pension credit, which will not bring about the savings needed, it's just robbing Peter to pay Paul as I said before (Estimates suggest that up to £2.1 billion of Pension Credit went unclaimed in the 2021/22 financial year). But oh well carry on, they will not be getting another five years after this one.
I get what you mean. But surely we want the people who are eligible for Pension credit to be getting it though? Even if, in this instance, it may cause a loss overall in getting people on there to claim their winter allowance.
You need to get your old girl to sign up for it mate, if I heard right in the commons just now, it will be backdated 3 months.
She is adamant she is not eligible. Like I said, she accepted early payment of a pension from when she worked at the post office years back, and apparently this makes her not able to claim pension credit. When I try to press her further she just gets all dismissive.
Ah right, I don't know enough to help mate. Just give your old girl £300 whenever it's normally paid and tell her you have a magic money tree in the garden.
lol I could, between me and my brother, we could handle that easily, she'd get offended though. God I hope I am not that obstinate if I live to be an oldie. Between her and my step dad, and my frickin mother in law refusing to do **** she should, makes me want to put my head through a brickwall.
