He's started well. I'm taking it as a given that all of our established players have far too much for Ireland to be honest. It's Colwill, Gordon, Mainoo and Trent that I'm looking at really.
Aye. Trent as you say should be a shoe in. Mainoo just needs some calm but he has world class potential. Colwill is a ‘please step up’. Forgetting he’s a Mag Gordon is like a hairdryer proper bordering on old fashioned winger and can’t deny he’s a player. I’ll prefer when he goes to Liverpool.
Rice having more freedom is great, he doesn't play as a 6 for Arsenal and he's wasted there for England
I've always had Colwill as a long term successor at centre back, not so much as a full back, but it works in those popular lobsided 4's where one full back is basically a midfielder.
Aye he looked something else at Brighton. Just needs to step forward a bit more at Chelsea. We need 2 CB and a striker to step forward and make their mark, great chance for the lad.
At centre back we've got Guehi and Konsa as placeholders really and I'd hope Colwill and Branthwaite really develop in the next couple of years. At striker we've got nothing. Toney has just ended his international career. I'd be happy enough to see Watkins and Solanke play games for England but they're a huge drop off even though they're able goalscorers. I don't see anything obvious after that though. I think we're hoping for the emergence of Delap, Lankshear or Moore.
Completely agree. That said I think Solanke is a proper 9 and Watkins is different altogether. We’d win more games with those 2 than Kane. Must be a couple young uns coming through somewhere. Lookman is playing up front for Nigeria today. He didn’t half develop. We wrote him off too soon.
I honestly think Gordon is a deeply average footballer - at least for this very top level. Great runner but unimpressive on the ball. Not sure what he’d offer Liverpool other than one in the eye for the bluenoses. He’s a fraction of the player that Diaz is imo.
Enjoyed that. I know the opposition aren't great but that's 90% of international football. The freedom of positioning in attacking areas and some of the one touch football was great. The speed of attacks, especially in the first half, impressed me. Then we still have the ability to control the game with more conservative possession play, like in the last 15 minutes or so. Pretty sure Carsley will get the job and I am really not against it.
It was good mate. Carsley has been lined up for a while, but they may well be looking for a so called bigger name. The FA desperate to win a major tournament and will spend on a big reputation if they can get one. Somebody said to me somebody like Ange at Spurs is the profile they are looking at.
