Funny you should be saying that given the circumstances but perhaps I can remind you and the others that I have said the truth is in the middle on this.
Oh man alive! It’s pretty clear that there was a comfortable English core of operators limiting our scope, chiefly Ashworth but also Howe and Staveley. They like Howe as a coach, that’s why he’s still here. But Mitchell was clearly putting him back in his place and it highlights why Howe had such a hissy fit when the changes first came in. The other two are replaced, as Eales stated Staveley had “too much power” and Ashworth did what he did. There is complicity across the board for those that were here for the two years building up to the PSR and Guehi debacles. Howe is part of that - but he has credit in the bank for very good performances over 2.5 seasons. I think it’s startlingly naive to think Howe wasn’t part of the very limited scope we started to demonstrate and as per Amazon was heavily involved in transfer decisions. I think he should, by the way, but not to the detriment of finding gems. Ultimately we ended a window forlornly offering for Olise then over-offering for Guehi. We made one other offer for Trafford. Palace, Palace and Burnley. Nobody can tell me something wasn’t clearly wrong.
I seriously hope you and Chaos have start dates with the club soon. Clearly have far more experience and expertise than those at the club.
Oy it's Mitchell that's identified the issues and told the world. Surely we can acknowledge his words. You guys are quick to jump in bed with Luke Edwards all of a sudden.
I've not seen Edwards or Hope's report. I've seen the stuff on youtube from geordie journo's (again those 2 aren't the best either) about it, and as they've stated some of the stuff in print that's been reported hasn't come across in the way that it was put across. i.e. sarcasm and piss taking from Mitchell at times.
We can only interpret what he said for what it is which is why I've said the truth will be somewhere in the middle. The main thing we can take from it is that the recruitment set up is small time and that will now be addressed which is good. If you remember I've always been asking where Howes finds are... I'm not blaming anyone but this was definitely something missing for whatever reason. The question for me is whether Howe is going to accept he can't have everything the way it's been or whether he will spit out his dummy..... I think he might do that latter but I'd like to think otherwise....... the early signs of him being replaced is what I think I'm seeing... I could end up right or wrong on that.
I said this weeks ago. Howe's done himself no favours whatsoever with the way he behaved. It reeks of Sporting Director wanting his own man in now. What I will state is there will be absolutely no ****ing way that man will be called Mauricio as he apparently hates Mitchell and vice versa. The clubs scouting network was none existent. This came under Dan Ashworth's remit and they had started to fill those positions but then he jumped ship. This will be a consequence of that. As for whoever is popping off about Staveley having too much say? Go ****ing start your own business and try not wanting a say FFS. She was the owner and had every right to have a say on how they seen things and how PIF seen things and wanted things done.
Didn’t realise that about Poch, mate - where did you get that from? They spent years together at Soton and Spurs. For the record I agree Mitchell is saying things that suggest the opposite. The interview was both condescending and overtly praising, not a good combo. Vote of confidence type stuff. They’ll be looking at a bigger name I suspect. I reckon the young manager who took Dortmund to the CL final could have already been sounded out. The Dortmund model is something to emulate and the structure Mitchell would want. Eden Terzic.
All I said about staveley was that she wouldn't have known because she isn't a football person which is true.
I don't see a problem, Mitchell say Newcastle aren't paying the "Saudi tax" and letting clubs know it's a waste of time if they try it on,simple enough and we'll go again in January.
Don't quote me but I'm sure it was quite a few of them on talksport. Simon Jordan and Jim White who were saying there is absolutely no love lost between Mitchell and Poch after their time together at Spurs. Poch didn't believe in sporting directors and believed he should have full control and a power struggle ensued. Poch lost. Another thing I've recently been made aware of which isn't good, is what the Monaco fans think of Mitchell. I reckon Maggie Thatcher reincarnated would stand a better chance in Newcastle than Mitchell would in Monaco . To add balance here though he was tasked to buy players young and cheap and sell at profit
Yeah not a great start to life in the Toon for Mitchell. Would have been better off keeping a lot of the comments to himself instead of going out in the media and basically throwing everyone else under the bus. Particularly claiming the previous transfer strategy was "not fit for purpose" - this coming from a guy who was, admittedly, only there as an advisory role this summer but who has managed the square root of **** all for us so far. Pope, Tino, Botman, Hall, Bruno, Tonali, Gordon, Barnes, Isak is nearly an entirely new Xi and are all very good signings so to say its not fit for purpose is a bit of a cheap shot - at who I don't know but either way until he's gone and got us a few gems he should have kept his mouth shut about what's gone before.
He's not saying they are bad signings, but they're expensive signings that dont require any nouse.....they're not clever discoveries and the club needs to find players.... Brighton are the best at it. I agree with him.
I didn’t necessarily think it was about transfers in. It was the lack of transfers out then buying players which led to mistakes over selling Anderson and Minteh
