I don't doubt for a second that we were one of the clubs that opposed it, but Matt Law's using some very dodgy wording there.
Believed to be one of at least 3 clubs? Believed by who? Him, presumably. At least 3? So maybe 500, then? **** hack.

Postecoglou’s apparently left Spence out of the Europa squad…

What a ****ing ridiculous decision that is if true.

Edit: Yep, been confirmed by Gold/ Romano now. 4 GKs in the squad but one RB. Make it make sense… absolutely bonkers <doh>

This is the cost of years of mismanaging our CG/HG numbers.

We are forced to include Whiteman and Austin in the squad just to comply with UEFA rules. Omitting either of them wouldn't make one iota of difference.

We've only used 2 out of 4 CG spots and 4 out of 7 association spots. It's a madness.

But I personally would have omitted one of Richarlison or Werner.

Yes that's right, I said Werner.

Ally Gold reckons Gray will play at RB. He might even turn into a better RB than Spence, so let's see.

Spence can play RB or LB.

Why didn’t they drop Forster instead of Spence?

We were never gonna exclude Werner after re-signing him. As if his signing wasn’t bad enough, it’s caused so many added issues now, he’s essentially prevented Spence from getting considerable game time and he’ll likely continue to be selected over Moore. Utterly shambolic signing.

Gray probably will fill in at RB I’d imagine. Was pointless keeping Spence now though, he won’t start in Prem, won’t play in Europa so his best bet is a run out in the domestics. Terrible squad management from Postecoglou.

The simple answer is because Ange trusts Forster to do a job if Vicario gets injured/suspended more than he does Austin or Whiteman, which makes perfect sense, so that isn't the issue

The issue is the gaping void after Austin and Whiteman in the HG column of the squad list, because that is what's depriving us of having the maximum amount of players thanks to several years of doing a rotten job of developing them, because we could just as easily see the likes of KWP, Skipp, Tanganga etc etc in that column if we did a better job in the last 4-5 years bringing them on, but we didn't so we don't

Because Whiteman and Austin are both utter ****e and are only still at the club because we need to tick the HG box.

They’re CG. You don’t essentially have to pick them either. It’s just a case of that they’re the only CG players at the club so you may as well take them.

    That's for the EL.

iirc for the PL we need to name them in the squad.

Nope you don’t. Prem is slightly less strict than UEFA too as they don’t have the CG ruling. Can’t remember how big our squad is at the moment, I think we have 9(?) HG players on the books so Whiteman will likely not make the Prem squad as there won’t be space to use in the foreign quota for him either.

So Ben Davies and Archie Gray are cover for Porro and Udogie in Europa?

Terrible squad management. Essentially having no club trained players in our squad is embarrassing.
We're down four players before we've even started and it desperately needs addressing in the next couple of windows.

Walker-Peters is out of contract in the summer, so that's one possibility.
Marcus Edwards' contract expires a year later, but that would be a more questionable return.
Are there even any other players worth thinking about, besides an extremely unlikely one for Kane?

Noni Madueke (though the odds of Chelsea letting him go are practically nil)
    Milos Vejlkovic
William Troost-Ekong (though he's just buggered off to the oilfields)

I’m surprised we included Werner at Spence’s expense. Would have thought that with Moore not needing to be named in the squad, and the EL presenting a great opportunity to get him involved in the squad, we could have sacrificed our final choice senior attacker for a bit of defensive depth and the chance to give Spence some starts.

The club need some club trained players. That said I wouldn’t want the club signing players just to fill a quota.

Hopefully the likes of Moore & Lankshear become first team regulars and ease the problem

The obvious issue going forward is our academy's continued inability to produce defenders

While there's one or two with extenuating circumstances (i.e. Ange was reportedly high on Charlie Sayers, but injuries wrecked him) our current track record of one academy CB per decade getting minutes (Tanganga in the 2020s, Caulker in the 2010s, Ledders in the 2000s, and for some reason when I try and remember the 90s my vision blurs and I get a nosebleed...) is odd, especially when you consider Vejlkovic has the best part of 200 Bundesliga appearances, so great job bringing him into the team Poch...

No way Werner was going to return without the guarantee of being in the Europa squad.

Our own fault for re-signing him though.

Agreed, albeit we should’ve signed KWP seeing as there’s gonna be almost no intent to play Spence now.

The Edwards window has long gone, if we were to re-sign him it should’ve been the summer of 23. Got enough wide forwards/ attacking mids now.

The rest simply aren’t good enough.
