I don’t dislike the football but I feel it’s predictable going forward and opponents don’t really need to do much to score against Spurs. Ultimately you need to be solid defensively if you want to win things and I don’t see Spurs even trying to be solid. To make me satisfied as a fan I need to see more than dominating games with 65% possession and 500 passes but losing. Ange had a great start at Spurs but the reality is, the team has had issues since Nov 2023 and I’m not seeing those being addressed at all.
I saw lot of variety in our attacks, more so than against Leicester which in turn was above anything we saw in the second half of last season. We tried balls to feet, high crosses, drilled crosses, long shots, just none of it was clinical enough. The variety started to fade when we moved Son to a more central position as he doesn't have the physicality of Kulu, but it was still of a high level and we were forcing the Toon into errors across the final third.
I think the latter part of the post is the concern. There doesn’t seem to be any progression happening. Our best and most complete football came in Ange’s first few months. Defensively more than anything we are woeful, when we really shouldn’t be as we’ve got some very good individuals all across the back four. Their second goal came from our defence sitting on the half way line, it’s just too high. There’s high lines then there’s being practically kamikaze. As I’ve said all summer though, we’ve not really helped Ange out and that’s what bugs me, his tactics will look better with higher quality and/ or more quality and we’ve barely given him any. Instead hoping/ banking these excellent young signings can mature quicker than what should be expected.
Maybe I am. I wouldn't make that move if I was Eze. He'll be looking at Olise's move to Bayern and thinking 'that's the level I should be aiming for'. Palace to Spurs just isn't enough of a step up right now.
Please not Poll, Dier hard, Citizen Kane Spurf etc respectable posters know their onions but the others it’s just getting childish.
Defensively and the middle of the park for me, just too weak. Just as a contrast watch how Liverpool dominate, close down and get forwards into dangerous positions. You just never seem to feel it much with us at the moment...
Palace to Spurs is a massive step up. It’s midtable/ bottom half to challenging for European spots with the aim of winning something, along with a sizeable pay increase. I really don’t get this take you’ve taken of seemingly thinking we’re suddenly some sort of minnows.
