Average build by normal population standards let alone gym standards. He’s lifting reasonable numbers for his size but nothing special and definitely not enough to be spending forever between sets like he’s Jay Cutler but leaning way too far forward. None of which I’d care about but I’ve got through 12 sets of other things waiting for the prick and it’s the last thing I want to be leaving til last.
Nice little addition if only I knew how to set the damn thing. Came from China with no instructions and had about 10 modes and 9 buttons.
As usual at this time of year, while on holiday putting weight on, I start to 'plan' how I'll get it back off again, plus even more. Got very bored of gym to the point I stopped going, but that was as much to do with how limited the place was. Looks like I might be working a bit further away for six months, so will look to find a better equipped place. My right shoulder has never recovered, I think I've got arthritis coming on but will get it properly looked at, so will not train with any heavy stuff. Have to be lighter, more reps, type stuff. Got to hit 10k steps a day as well. And try to get back to being able to run 5k comfortably. That's pretty much it, same **** different place. Although may dust down and get a bike serviced as a mode of getting about while away.
Steps are key (and diet obviously). Steps are the most underrated exercise. I’d sack off the running and try walking in a weighted vest. Makes you look like a suicide bomber but very good for you and I always pick up an injury running eventually.
never thought about a weighted vest. Loved running but had my knee done and cycle. But as winter comes maybe the vest is a decent alternative.
Flat bench with the dumbbells for the first time in a while. Got the 50s up pretty comfortably which is decent for the weight I am now. Get ready for summer 2025 now you guys x
Exercise for weight loss is good news and bad news really. Good news is that it's all about using fat reserves as energy so you've got to keep in the aerobic zone. The closer to the top of that zone you can stay then the more fat you burn. You can use your heart rate as a gauge. A decent rule of thumb would be 180 minus how old you are. That figure is where your body switches from aerobic to anaerobic. An example for a 50 year old would be- 180-50=130. At 130 beats per minute your body switches to anaerobic. For weight loss it would be best to keep your heart rate around 125bpm. That gives the body time to turn existing fat cells in to energy. If you don't have a heart rate monitor then it you can guess it as "conversational effort". You can complete a sentence without gasping for air. Could be a fast walk or a light jog depending on fitness. Cycling is usually decent for it and it's minimum impact on joints. The bad news is that you need to dedicate alot of time to do it. Minimum time at aerobic levels is 40 minutes a session. It's kind of takes the body a little while to figure out what you are doing before it fires up the slow burners. A bit like a wood burner, it takes half an hour to really heat up. If you can spend hours in this zone then the weight will soon come off. Sorry for the long post but it's an area I have a lot of experience in. I used to compete as a triathlete and weight was a major part of training because cycling is all power to weight. Hope some/any of this helps. I'm a bit of a geek about it.
That's actually really good to know. I've just spent the last 6 months working like a bastard, and have just been eating on the go, getting lack of sleep (working until 11:30 some nights) and just relentless work and stress. As a result, I'm feeling really out of shape as I usually get at least 3-5 regular workouts in each week (cycling, surfing, swimming) but since easter, it's just been a handful when I can. I'm off to the States on Saturday for a month and plan to do a lot of hiking, which I hope is gonna kick start some metabolic miracle. Any tips ? I don't want to **** myself over on day 1. I'm 50 years old, so that heart rate ration thing is useful .
I think I can speak for the entire board in saying that we can't wait for both the updates and the eventual feature length special of 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dickhead' ...
