My biggest worry is goals. Having lost Clarke we lose guaranteed goals which mean points. It’s cross your fingers time on that front, doesn’t mean we won’t score enough but a proven couple of regular scorers would have been reassuring. Arguably Browne and Jobe are our safest bets. Signing Samed maybe helps get them closer to the right zone.
Having calmed down, agree with all of this. Real frustration about the no.9 again, as I think that could have really kicked us on. We still have a good squad though and a manager who seems to be an excellent find. Let’s just keep winning.
Have to hope the season continues as it starts re goals. Spread about . We've scored 7 and Clarke only got 1 of them and his replacement has 1. We're all also a tad guilty at looking at what we haven't signed up front and sort of ignoring the 2 we have brought in. Maybe one of Isidore or Abdullahi (not forgetting Mayenda) are the striker we've needed?!?!
Well just sat on the train setting off for pompey and I'm relatively happy with the transfer window. We have added experience and cover in vital positions so that is the plus side . Slightly disappointing that we haven't signed a more experienced centre forward but let's hope the lads we've signed up front hit the ground running. Time to concentrate on match day.
I get that but i just think the way we are set up we will score goals but itll come from all over the team. Imo Mundle, Mayenda n Isidor could all get double figures. If Jobe was playing as the 10 (the role rigg has played last 2 games) he would hit double figures. I think we have plenty goals in midfield, Rigg makes unreal movement into the box and will score a fair few, as will Browne. Poveda and Roberts need to be aiming for 5 each as a min. If cirkin stays fit he might get close to double figures the way he attacks the box lol O9 ballard mepham n co need to be aiming for a few each We have goals in our team, they are just spread out rather than relying on Clarke to bail us out - we will def miss Clarke at times tho but thats because hes class
I think he would’ve given us something else up front, someone to bring others into play, good in the box and experienced but as you say if he’s not suited to our play then it maybe for the best he didn’t come, as we seen with Grigg.
I was excited to see that Brighton bid turned down. Really want to see him get some game time this year, hoping he is roughly where Rigg was 12 months ago.
Overall a pretty good window i think. Sure losing Clarke was always going to hurt but he was always going to leave at some stage. Mepham - Experienced CB - Tick Samed - CDM which people have been crying out for - Tick Poveda - Winger with an x-factor (hoping RLB can get the best of him) Wilson - CF who can also play on the wing - Tick Abdullahi - CF for the future but who knows - Fits the model Aleksic- CM that;s higly rated - Tick
I think the fact that Mayenda has come in and made the position his to lose shows that the club's policy of signing prospects is the right one. He's only 19, only been here a year, but if he keeps progressing at the same rate, we could be worrying about whether we can hang on to him in a year or two's time. I've said it before, but seeing the club achieve success this way is more exciting, much more satisfying, than blowing big money on a "Championship-ready No. 9 that we own".
If someone told you the day the season ended ln May that the only player’s we would loose are Ekwah and Clarke, would you if belived them? more positives than negatives in this transfer window.
I'm happy with this window. Yes,I would have liked a proven Championship striker,but the 2 new lads up front and Mayenda will hopefully deliver. I agree that we are likely to get goals from all over the pitch...3 of our 7 so far this season have come from defenders,and we know both Jobe and Rigg are always looking for a chance,and Roberts and Mundle carry a threat. I'm slightly surprised we let Nectar go,as he has proved himself quite versatile in those defensive areas....it may mean that Seelt and Huggins aren't as far away as we thought. I'm also surprised that,unless I've missed something,Hemir and Jewi are still here? Also,has Anderson left by mutual consent? I can't see that confirmed either.
TBF to O9, 2 goals and an assist isn't a bad tally for an entire season from CB... he's done it in 2 games
Pleased this damn window is now shut. Yes it would have been nice to have got another experienced striker in but let’s just see what happens. It’s been said that football matches are won and lost in the middle of the park. Well, I’m looking at it this way….we could run teams into the ground in the first half and then completely change the midfield 3 with similar quality with the new lads that have come in. How many other teams in the league can do that?? We will create chances and we will score goals. 21 games before the January window opens with the Clarke money still available to spend. Let’s see how things pan out over the next 4 months and then strengthen again where needed
