It's slighly amusing hearing this story about Keir removing a Thatcher picture, don't know if it's true.
Reason I find it amusing is because I always saw Maggie as hating the lower classes, and the right to buy was part of her plan to destroy that social structure. A lot of this hatred was born out from the miners strikes, so MT took to attacking the lower class culture of cheap football, cigarettes and alcohol.
You only have to look around and see decades of erosion on our pub culture, in fact since covid our whole social structure has been seriously eroded - we will come to the stage eventually where there will be no pubs left, and people will just drink cheap booze at home, there's quite a serious side to all this and it's sad to watch.
To think a lot of boozers went to great expense to create an outdoor culture after the smoking ban and covid, now the busybodies are not satisfied with their lot and now welcome more totaltarian measures - I'm sure if the old witch was looking down on us, she would be applauding Starmer after the stub it out plan, so maybe taking the picture down reminded him too much of himself.
