There should definitely be a hefty sugar tax imo. Is Jamie Oliver still banging the drum on that one?

Don't ban these things, tax the bejasus out of them to pay for the NHS. I include pot in that btw.

They did it on soft drinks but not other products with just as much sugar. Bit odd really. Raw material prices have pushed many of the worst products well up in price anyway.

actually restrictions on the **** they put in junk food sounds like a good idea to me though also think Horny suggestion of rewarding people for "good" behaviour is a good idea bit like GP's now organise walking groups and can prescribe it as treatment .

Think we just need a good war to level the playing field again, so our politicians and busybodies have less to worry about, when tobacco and sugar is top of a list of priorities, you know we've had it too good for too long. I doubt too many Ukranian and Russian soldiers are worrying about the damage smoking does to their health. Fooking nanny state.

Anyway, does no one see the irony of complaining about smoking in pub gardens....where alcohol is served!

It's slighly amusing hearing this story about Keir removing a Thatcher picture, don't know if it's true.

Reason I find it amusing is because I always saw Maggie as hating the lower classes, and the right to buy was part of her plan to destroy that social structure. A lot of this hatred was born out from the miners strikes, so MT took to attacking the lower class culture of cheap football, cigarettes and alcohol.

You only have to look around and see decades of erosion on our pub culture, in fact since covid our whole social structure has been seriously eroded - we will come to the stage eventually where there will be no pubs left, and people will just drink cheap booze at home, there's quite a serious side to all this and it's sad to watch.

To think a lot of boozers went to great expense to create an outdoor culture after the smoking ban and covid, now the busybodies are not satisfied with their lot and now welcome more totaltarian measures - I'm sure if the old witch was looking down on us, she would be applauding Starmer after the stub it out plan, so maybe taking the picture down reminded him too much of himself.

Starmers latest whiz was to cut funding to the Chelsea Pensioners but his own party put an end to that

The next generation of Chelsea Pensioners will be the Chelsea FC players whose contracts are so long that they will be pensioners when the contracts end

They target kids mate, knowing there's a good chance it'll kill them in one of the worst ways possible. Without doubt the most evil business there is, and I'm including the arms manufacturers and oil companies.

Yeah fair point, I had seen something in the past where they were promoting them to kids via packaging and flavours. I'd forgotten about that aspect of their business, I was more coming from adult choices and you are right to highlight it, my oversight.

You don't come home smelling of or inhaling other peoles alcohol!

I agree completely with you by the way. I don't need protecting by the government so if I fancy a cheeky cig outside when I'm on the beers, I will.

    I hope it don't happen.

I remember Sunak had plans to bring in a eventual ban as well, all based on date of birth, but at least that idea waited until I was dead lol. I thought we'd got away with this shhite when Starmer came in, although I think he did speak out against smoking in the run up to the election, so I think I was just hopeful the idea would just go away and Keir would be too busy with other stuff.

Spent three weeks in Spain this summer.

Was quite refreshing seeing folks smoke without having someone bearing down on them.

They've got a good deal better weather to do it outdoors than us though.

All thats gonna happen is everyone is going to start using Snus.

It's what everyone in Scandinavia does and the footballers have been turning to it for years

Quite prevalent this stuff, especially where I play golf.

Apparently, some of the better juniors (teens) use this as it gives them clarity and focus! And adults of course.

There are discarded tabs all over the course.

The times I've tried them I've felt off my head, genuinely. I guess if you use regularly you get used to them.
