    Nooooo.

For good sake use Spearing, he is miles better.

What a way to undermine his confidence.

    I don't rate Shelvey either.

Think thats worrying. If he had been out for a couple of weeks I don't think Shelvey would have been recalled so this suggests to me that Lucas injury is pretty serious and we are talking months...

    Hope I'm wrong though!

Personally I think Spearing will play there, but don't forget, we need someone to cover for the usual cover spearing supplies if that makes sense. But still, this suggests to me that the Lucas injury is serious.

Don't think it means he will replace Lucas though. If Spearing is utilised then that means there is a vacancy on the bench.

I wouldn't read too much into it regarding the length of Lucas' lay-off. What it tells us is that we're short on numbers in midfield (and we knew that anyway, with the late sale of Meireles.) So it may only be 2-3 weeks out, but if someone else picks up a knock, we'd have nobody to replace them. Hence Shelvey is back.

    great news

I was disappointed when he went on loan.

Jay adds his value through hard work and has really grown on me but I think Shelvey can add more in attack and become a top player.

I don't think he's got the mindset of a mature player yet. That chip he attempted vs. United from 60 yards springs to mind, he just seems a bit like a headless chicken at this point. I think he will come good, showed promise and obviously been very good for Blackpool. In my humble opinion, Hendo should be given the AMC role in front of Adam, with Maxi, Kuyt or Downing on the wings. That way he can send some good passes forward (like the 1 touch vs. Bolton) instead of sideways for a change. I'm not sure if Adam has the defensive capabilities to cover for Lucas though. Spearing should be backup to Adam and Gerrard, while Shelvey should have been kept at Blackpool.

I know I'm mixing up our DMC and AMC roles a bit but our play is so fluid that it's almost as if the midfield plays total football, everyone goes everywhere. Bellamy runs right, left, and forward while Downing just pops up wherever the ball is being passed upfield. We need to step up defensive, tackling training and that isn't easy, but perhaps we can cope.

simply put guys just your brain before commenting... I mean come on shelvey is recalled as we are down a player, so if we've got no gerrard... then adam and henderson and spearing are the only guys left so we neeed to bring the guy back even as cover.

why on earth assume shelvey is going to replace lucas????

Obviously not a straight swop into the side - but the logic is unmistakable - if Lucas was only going to be out for a couple of weeks, or if Gerrard was going to be available, then the recall makes no sense. If the injury is going to be longer than a couple of weeks AND Gerrard won't be back in time to provide the cover necessary, then Shelvey's recall makes sense.

His form for Blackpool has been great, he's clearly the class act in the side and head and shoulders above the majority of Championship midfielders in his performances. His return should be capped with a few appearances, if only from the bench.

Well, Shelvey can go on loan again in January, so that's 4 weeks. So if Lucas heals after 3, then Shevley's recall won't have been pointless, and he won't suddenly be sitting around again.

We just have to wait and see. I sdon't think it's as serious as some of the doom-mongers would have us believe.
