A new Labour MP has written to the government calling for a rethink on the means testing of the winter fuel payment, Sky News has learnt. Speaking on the Sky News Daily podcast, Sky News' deputy political editor Sam Coates said: "We at Sky know that at least one Labour MP, Jessica Asato, has written to Liz Kendall to talk about how nervous they are about this policy." He said this was to "suggest bluntly that they change it". As political correspondent and Sky News Daily host Liz Bates pointed out, it is notable that a Labour MP is raising her displeasure so early in their parliamentary career. It shows the government could have trouble with its parliamentary party when the House of Commons returns next week. https://news.sky.com/story/new-labo...g-changes-to-winter-fuel-payment-cut-13206117
I think I read there are 1.6 million migrants sitting around, twiddling their thumbs. Utterly pointless and absurdly costly. Either find them jobs or send them home. Surely no other country suffers such a farce as this?
It's actually more than that, as that number doesn't include those seeking asylum, and obviously not all the ones they know **** all about. I'm not sure if it includes the families of students either.
What about the cost of housing benefit, health care and education? It's not a few pounds a day. If it were a small amount, the bill wouldn't be over £8 billion a year. That is an obscene amount. Something has to give.
The 'few pounds a day' is clearly nonsense, as it ignores the non-cash handouts and the cost of support etc that they get. The £8 billion is quite probably a big underestimate, never mind the social and other costs due to the impacts.
One fine day we may meet at a castle or folly and enjoy a smoke and a flask. Your continued Good Health.
