The Sunderland echo said she was ill recently. I wonder if Martin could do the job part-time ?, as his wife and family might be happy where they are.
I hope your right Cest, I would rather it be Oneill than Hughes but my logic tells me it will be Hughes as I expect MON would ask for a bigger transfer kitty. If we do get MON then our ambition must be high and that is a good thing. Living down here in Villa terretory I can tell you a lot of Villa fans were less than impressed with MON when he had the job there. They said he was stubborn and regularly played players out of postition. He is certainly not my first choice but I would not be unhappy with his appointment like I was when Bruce got the job.
You were right about Pardew Cest I remember on the old 606 you said it was "nailed on"... I said "like ****e"...
I follow celtic as well as supporting the toon and will be gutted if it is o'neill He will make you solid at the back 2 out and out wingers and a definite big man up top. He has always played like that. Great man manager. Has favourites though and will pick from a small number of players if he can. Good luck lads
We need a manager that doesn't chop and change His team every week. A small solid and competitive squad is fine by me. We also need a man with a plan A and a plan B. O Neill is the one for me.
Question to Sunderland fans: If O'Neill is to join, he will demand a large transfer kitty. Many of you voiced concerns/observations in the last few days that Short has spent very little on the club and I even saw the quote "for Short, profit = success". With that in mind, is it really likely to be O'Neill, or someone more in the Mark Hughes mould who doesn't need millions?
I also have a source and he tells me that the number one target is Hughes and talks are taking place this this week. The second choice at the moment is Avram Grant due to the fact that Short knows him personally and thinks he could do a job. Just passing on info. Wouldn't want you to get Hughes, decent manager but Avram would be marvelous.
Martin OâNeill, Mark Hughes and Rafa Benitez linked with Sunderland job FAVOURITE: Martin O'Neill Published on Wednesday 30 November 2011 19:19 BOYHOOD Sunderland fan Martin OâNeill is the favourite to succeed Steve Bruce as manager at the Stadium of Light. Bruce was sacked on Wednesday after a desperate sequence of results left the club 16th with just two Premier League wins to their name and only two points above the relegation zone. In total, Bruce won 29 of his 98 matches in charge, drawing 28 and losing 41. Bookmakers have installed former Wycombe, Leicester, Celtic and Aston Villa boss OâNeill as the early favourite to replace the ex-Manchester United defender. Bruceâs former Man United team-mate Mark Hughes is also believed to be a front runner. Hughes has enjoyed good spells at Blackburn, Man City and Fulham, but has not worked since leaving Craven Cottage in the summer. Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who still lives on the Wirral, and Guus Hiddink, who recently quit as boss of Turkey, also figure prominently in the betting.
Don't you have a thread saying it's going to be Moyes ,Syd? For me, it has to be Moyes. Tactically he can get the best out of the team, and turn the SoL back into a fortress. Right now it is more like a big ass bouncy castle for the visiting teams... My verdict is still out on Hughes. I think MoN would be good choice. But #1 for me is Moyes. If Short wants a statement of intent, and turn this business into a profitable one for himself, he needs to invest in a top manager. It will be his best acquisition.
I did here we had approached Everton for permission but how true that was, who knows. It did come from a very trusted person but not sure about who told him.
Been told its definetly Lee Clark. My mates sister's brother drives for Sunderland AFC and he has a booking to pick him up from a hotel in Newcastle this morning...................
