Best one I saw at the weekend was a pub board saying: "115 players v 115 charges at 4.30" for the scum v citeh match...
Massive massive Leeds away at slightly massive Sheffield Wednesday. When I see the Leeds manager being interviewed I just hear this.
Riga FS, who I saw play at home a few weeks ago in their shiny new stadium in a forest on the edge of Riga, qualified for the group stages of the Europa League last night, beating a Cypriot team on penalties. Ridiculously excited by the prospect of the draw as I hope to follow them on the road, if they end up visiting interesting and accessible places. They were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by Bodo-Glimt, up in the arctic circle in Norway. Looked at going but it would have cost about £1500 and beer is £8 a pint. There are limits.
Draw is today I think. Hoping Chelsea have a mix of long away trips and go to Larne. Watched some of their win against the mighty Lincoln Red Imps and their ground looked like my sort of place- like Layer Road but full of angry Northern Irishmen.
Larne were well beaten home and away by Riga FS in the Champions League qualifiers. I reckon they’d take Chelsea though.
Nightmare draw -Riga’s away games are Frankfurt (fine), Bucharest (dodgy), Kyiv and Tel Aviv (war zones). I assume the latter two will be played on neutral ground.* The teams they drew at home in this weird format would all have been fun away trips - Ajax, Anderlecht, Galatasaray and POAK (Thessaloniki) * just found out Kyiv will play in Hamburg and Maccabi in Budapest.
