Don't think we can read anything into it, just journalists guessing really.

I was just talking the piss; Trent was classed as a midfielder prior to the World Cup

When Liverpool played Stags a couple of times a few years back, it was massive for the club and local area.

I'm sure Liverpool will experience that again some day :bandit:

Most of them will be more scared of us than we are of them.

Yeah but in the end look at our home games. That's the bread and butter and tough games.

Look at the away 4th ranked. The city ringers.

My prediction is we will be seeded in the the last 32.

Unlikely to see us in top 8 to 16 will be good.

Makes the group stage more interesting.
Has at least one game between two big teams every game week.
Gives smaller teams the chance to play other smaller teams and not just get hammered by big boys.
Gives big teams a better chance of going through if they have a bad season.
At least two extra games per team so more money for UEFA.
Helps stave off the European super league.

But doesn't mean it's not still bollocks.

To save me looking it up and wading through the complications, can someone please help me understand and set out the new format in as few words as possible.

There's one big group of 36 teams.
Each team plays 8 games. The teams are ranked in four pots, with each team playing two games against Pot 1, two against Pot 2 etc. The two games per pot are one home and one away.
The top 8 teams go through, the bottom 12 go out. The rest have a play off to determine who goes through.
The stages from last 16 onward are unchanged.
No-one drops down to the Europa League.

    I think that's right?

Have you guy checked out other teams draws?

Arsenal and city should piss through.

We were seeded 1 and ended up with a far harder draw

Thanks for that. <ok> It explains the H and A aspect of the teams we've drawn. I listed them from Pot 1 - 4 and it seemed obvious that Pot 4 was the weakest hence Bologna and Girona.

On the face of it I don't like the new format. I've got all sorts of questions but no point asking them now. I will wait to see how it starts panning out.

Yes but now they will piss through in the top 8 without breaking a sweat, get to last 16 while we will have to scrap through last 32 to get to the same point.

Like you are seeded pot 1 and get real Madrid European champions and Bayer Leverkusen at home games.

Why not bin the FA Cup if that's your logic? Or any random draw cup tournament?

What a bizarre argument calling random cup draws unfair. Luck has always played a significant part in sport.

We had over 2.5k at Cardiff last night btw so clear our fans care about it. That's a decent amount to travel midweek to a ground we last visited only in April.

And in your example if the L1 team had beaten their fellow L1 team they'd progress and have a better shot at a plum draw?

not true. The England official squad announcement puts them in those positions so generwlly that are put in areas they’re expected to play

a better shot but no guarantee. As I say you could go through and then play another l1 team, not get on tv, not get the crowd and be knocked out.

Is it right that a team who goes further in a competition can earn less money than a team that doesn’t go as far? That doesn’t seem right.
