Invested a lot trying to get the eldest bairn into footy. 5 year old...he's completetly obsessed now! Culminated in tonight, already watched 3 games today... he's insisted on watching the mallorca vs real madrid game tonight when he found out it was on, he loves RM cos fifa on his switch...our lass has now sent me to bed in his room to watch it with him.

Well my lad, 23 years old is off on deployment with the Royal Australian Navy tomorrow. Flying into Perth with his aircraft (he’s an Avionics Tech), then on board HMAS Stuart at Rockingham. Sailing up to Darwin, then off to Singapore, Jakarta, India then back to Singapore then Perth. Back just before Christmas.
I can’t describe how proud me and Mrs K are of him. He was never an academic lad but what he’s doing now requires a bit of intelligence. More importantly it’s the job he is in. It might sound jingoistic but I honestly believe that serving your country is a very honourable act.

Just to let you know about the grandsons latest escapade. His plastic mag dad was trying to wind him about going to the game yesterday, so the grandson gave him both barrels back. He basically told him that Sunderland were a bigger and better side, won 6 titles that's more than Newcastle, the last time they win it was in 1955 and that Sunderland have won a trophy last. Seriously proud grandad moment and I haven't even told him about all that - he's went and looked it up on the Internet which is not bad for an 8 year old. He's even started called them, them lot up the road! <laugh> :emoticon-0103-cool:

Going on from my first post, I was sat at home yesterday and got a text off my lad to go outside. At the same time I heard an aircraft overhead. By the time I knew what was happening, still a bit groggy from night shift, I got outside and saw a Seahawk helicopter flying low over the house. Turns out my lad was in the Seahawk and asked the pilot to do a fly past. Not every day a military helicopter does a low level flyover.
The video I took doesn’t do the episode justice as I didn’t get out in time, but still….a really nice thing to do. I’ve tried to upload the video from my phone but can’t seem to do it. He sent me a couple of images, none of which are of the flyover though.

Played for the u13s again last night in the County Cup Final against Seaham Harbour. He was asked to come in at no3 and scored 8 before he was run out again going for a second run because he "didn't want to run out Alfie" (best batsmen who plays for the County). Bishop Auckland ended up with 104.
There innings was always on par until around the 14/15th overs where the run rate went up..
He was then asked to bowl the 17th over and despite being hit for 4 first ball, only conceded a couple more runs and took the important 4th wicket. Two more wickets fell in the 18th over for only a couple of runs. Isaac then bowled the 19th over and only went for 4 runs leaving Seaham needing about 13 off the last over, where they only managed 7, with Bishop winning by 6 runs.
Not a bad way to end his first year playing cricket ( this time last year he had never picked up a bat or bowled).
Well proud of him, especially taking on the responsibility of batting at 3.

Outstanding stuff, well done to him. Had a look on the Play Cricket app but doesn't look like the game was scored electronically on there. Is that Bishop Auckland badgers?

Thanks, he did well and more importantly enjoyed it all night. Hearing him encouraging other lads was brilliant.
Yeah, I keep looking to make sure I got my facts right (sure I am close :emoticon-0100-smile) but not on anywhere.
Yes, they are known as the Badgers.

Sat on the fence tonight as my lads go head to head.

Theyve both just been called up for trials to represent NE Basketball in their age group for a tournament

<laugh>. Im not going to name which son, but one of them is destined to have a great Basketball career. He absolutely destroys every team he plays against single handidly. Shame theres no money in UK Basketball though

Didn't realize that basketball was growing again in the North East. Used to watch years ago when it was on channel 4. Been to a few games at Sunderland and even watched a final at the Royal Albert Hall. As long as your lads are enjoying themselves you have every reason to enjoy it also

It's mad down here in Stockport. There are 3 courts and the matches are on Thursday night, Friday night and all day Saturday and Sundays. My oldest 2 both play. I love it.

Our boy is back off deployment. Mrs K and I met him at Rockingham naval base this afternoon. I can’t post a photo as the app assumes, quite rightly, that it was taken somewhere within a military base. The main thing is that he’s back home. He has a few days to sort out the helicopter he works on, getting it ready for its flight back to Nowra in NSW then he’s on leave for a few weeks over Christmas and new year.
