Still can’t get my head around this one and especially not at that price. I’ll continue to expect us to be gazumped until it’s official.
Arsenal replacement looks to be getting close. Crazy that they could be spending our record transfer fee on a backup keeper
A back up keeper with very limited top level football. But looks like they had to pay his full release clause. And we paid a rather large amount for Bazunu with only league 1 football - albeit not as a backup
You may be right, but id imagine Arsenal didn’t think they’d be taking a small hit, or breaking even on him. Either way, im happy we have a goal keeper that will not let in the simple goals like we have had to endure for years now. Regarding Bazunu, maybe we loan him out is a good suggestion when back from injury, but im not convinced there is ever going to be a top keeper with him.
"Aaron Ramsdale spotted travelling to Staplewood" Ffs, why do these guys write in this sensationalist way? He could just as easily have read about it on here like I did, there was no need for Lyall Thomas to stand on a bridge over the M3 all night.
I expect they definitely didn’t think that given they signed him young. But they also might have assumed he’d have played for them for far longer and maybe they were never going to sell him for big money but move him on much later. Arsenal don’t really sell their first choices very often as there aren’t many clubs above them in the pyramid And they are notoriously bad at selling players they want to move on. Mainly due to the wages they give them. It’s what is causing the issues with moving Nketiah. Man United are the same and I can only assume Liverpool aren’t. Back under the tail end of wenger Arsenal had this bizarre system where nearly everyone was getting similar pay and there really wasn’t an enormous gap between highest and lowest. But that meant they couldn’t get or keep the real top players without causing a problem but couldn’t move on the average ones We seemed to do something similar on a lower level for a while. It looked like we had to overpay to get the likes of Hoedt to join and when they turned out useless we had a problem
Arteta clearly prefers Raya but I don't think Ramsdale was ever deemed "not good enough" at Arsenal. He was first choice all through 2022/23 when they finished second in the league and was voted into the PFA Team of the Year. Hardly not good enough.
He’s ****ing class!!! I was gobsmacked when they signed another keeper. Is he here yet?!?! Get him in before it goes tits up
Arsenal signing Raya seemed crazy at the time for multiple reasons. Them getting him when they had Ramsdale was one. And Brentford allowing it as a loan with a later purchase was another
At last a keeper that can organise the defense, and stop blunders like the Edwards own goal. I think tha is as valuable as his shot stopping.
If we sign him…he will make mistakes, and mistakes that directly lead to goals…because all goalkeepers do. He should however make less errors and make more saves too.
He also isn't afraid to bollock the defence in front of him if they make mistakes. He's a very vocal keeper which is also what we need.
Aaron Ramsdale not included in Lee Carsley's first England squad, so will be free to train at Staplewood for the next two weeks
