For what it’s worth, would like to see JWP back here but being used further forward than he ended up playing before he left…. His departure always seemed more like it had to happen financially and ambition wise for him rather than he wanted to…. Can see Wet Spam accepting a loan with obligation… he needs to be somewhere where he’s appreciated and loved …. If it’s him, Ramsdale, Fraser and Yuri, it would be a pretty tidy window….
I know some think this is funny but I am a bit gutted for the guy. Gets his big move and is immediately clobbered by some lower league idiot.
Yeah I feel sorry for the guy. I’m sure the increased wages will help cushion the blow but was interested to see if he was going to live up to the hype in the PL or not.
It depends on if the issue is cashflow, PSR or both. And how much we want to defer / spread into future years Assuming a four year deal Ramsdale only counts as about 5m against this year’s PSR. And another circa 20m signings will also count as similar. So it might not even be a case of “**** PSR” but rather the Alcaraz sale giving something close to 10m “profit” from an accounting sense that can be bizarrely spread on much more expensive players but just impact future budgets and likely mean sales are required in the future. But lots of clubs are doing that. Wolves suddenly aren’t spending but that one is odd as they have lots of net incomings. I expect that is because their previous dealings that always seemed suspect and far too favourable to them (top Portuguese players joining on relatively low wages). And Arsenal throwing out close to 400m over three years and not really selling and now unable to sign a striker without sales despite being propped up by much better commercial revenue It seems very complicated and not as simple as fees in and fees out (at least not on a single window basis) Or it could be that urgent action was taken on the goalkeeper front and a permanent deal really wasn’t planned for and will have a significant impact elsewhere. It’s big more from loaning a Dutch keeper to an 18m signings in a matter of days. We probably will only see loans / frees now regardless of sales
I always used to remember this from the FM days when saints were in the lower leagues. How annoying it was to rely on loan players and then have to blow your budget to basically start from where you left off. Along with identifying gems that wouldn’t join you in the championship. I think Lewandowski eventually joined from Poland but a year later than I would have liked…
Can’t help but think I’d be disappointed if only one “forward” came given links to both a central striker and wingers. Wonder how much of it comes down to the others leaving. First I think I’ve seen of Kamaldeen actually being for sale. And I’m sure he’d get us an “accounting loss” so that would be for cashflow and wage bill purposes primarily
And people wonder why there is so much rotation in that competition. Imagine if we’d spent that on him and the same things happened. We are in far less a position to absorb that
Yeah is strange, no one should be happy or find a serious injury funny. I’m not even sure if we were ever really in the running for him. I think we wanted him, but realised it was going to go north of what we felt it worth.
It was reported he agreed terms with us so was happy to come here too. He didn’t snub us, we just decided not to pay what Celtic wanted and someone else did. Assume it’s just Twitter kids who don’t know how to control their emotions into rational responses who are the ones laughing.
Wolves are buying Johnstone (not sure on fee) and £20m on Andre from Fluminense. Not sure if they have anyone else lined up
Pleasantly surprised how good the shots were from Archer, Fernandes and SAA in and around the box last night, Archer especially… I know finishing from attackers has been worked on (from the Solent interview) but it looked very natural and that has been at a premium for years…!!!
If we are in for him then surely means another CM is leaving. Or Lallana just isn’t going to feature much/at all. Downes, Aribo, Smallbone, Fernandes, Ugochukwu, Dibling, Lallana, JWP is just way too many who would all be wanting to play. Am I right in saying Dibling has been a right winger for most of his career at youth level? Could be that we use him there to make space for JWP/remove the need for a new right winger and then Lallana is hardly used
In my opinion the only way it works is if we are planning to play jwp as an AM. The he's really only competing with Aribo and Fernandes. Still think Aribo might be moved on though because not sure how many chances he will get in that scenario.
Dibling has always been a winger / sometimes a forward. Midfield was pretty new yesterday as far as I know. So he did pretty well.
