I was going to post this the other day, but I couldn't find any links that confirmed it was real. German Navy ship plays The Imperial March from Star Wars as it's towed down the Thames: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/cn87608w389o Who says that the Germans don't have a sense of humour? Everyone? Oh.
Not sure if there are any Oaasis fans posting on this thread, but I'm guessing 'no' from the preferences of you good people. Personally, they leave me cold and unmoved. This from today's Guardian nails it for me... "Lyrically, too, they’re dismal: the promisingly mischievous Elsa/Alka-Seltzer rhyme of debut single Supersonic soon gave way to dull platitudes that might as well have been written by AI. But the problem is the music. Oasis don’t do fast songs. Noel plays his guitar as if he’s scared it will break, and Oasis’s funkless, sexless plod is always carefully pitched below the velocity at which fluid dynamics dictate that you might spill your lager. Is there anything more useless than a rock band that doesn’t rock?" Plus, you'd have to pay me to go to Wembley Stadium to watch a gig, .
I'd go further. I have an almost evisceral hatred of them and always did. I certainly didn't mourn their split and couldn't give a toss about their reforming. Just a couple of arrogant pricks whose 'talent' (for what it was) was unoriginal almost to the point of plagiarism. Or maybe I should just say what I really think!
No argument from me. They're a pair of insufferable arseholes...and Pulp were 10 times the band. Suede are easily preferable, too.
I think I’m a bit more conflicted about Oasis. As I see it, the pros are: 1. They are infinitely better than all the dance/hip hop boring shyte which passes for popular music these days - and has done for many years. 2. Plagiarism is not a bad thing - The (Rolling) Stones copied Chuck Berry, The Beatles copied Buddy Holly. Few great artists are wholly original - they take bits of what has gone before and re-work it or add to it - my favs da Ramones being a case in point. 3. Noel is a very good songwriter. He has an ear for melody. I agree some of the songs would benefit from being a) faster (although not all are that slow) and b) shorter (anything over two minutes is wasted) 4. They do have a rock n roll style, swagger and arrogance, which bands should have. They might be pricks but most rock n roll stars are. It’s better than being boring, anodyne ****s who are all style over substance (see 1 above) The cons are: 1. They became bloated, overblown pastiches of themselves - like Spinal Tap or prog rock 2. The songs became ever longer and more grandiose and bizarre - as if they had to copy the same career path as The Beatles 3. They support City
For me, there's no swing to their stuff,.with very few exceptions and it lacks excitement. It's plodding and leaden and joyless and doesn't make me want to move. The Beatles are much the same to me. For all of the plaudits, I'm not 'turned on' or in any way excited by the vast majority of their stuff. There are only 2 types of music...the stuff that moves you, and the stuff that doesn't. It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing.
I've just heard part of an interview with Noel Gallagher and the1st band he saw and the one band he would like to meet are ...... the Damned
I went to a friend's funeral yesterday and after the service at the wake his son was handing out albums to some of the guests, Mike chose these for his friends for reasons of his memories or a shared time with them , mine was a Tangerine Dream concert which must have been around about 1978 and the record is Encore , live album and the highlighted track was Cherokee lane What a very touching memory to have , thanks mate
He's a big fan of the boys. He saw them on the Black Album Tour. The support band were Croydon band, The Straps, and they are definitely claiming he saw them first! He's a huge Pistols fan, too...and Zak Starkey, former Oasis drummer, is a Ruts fan boy. They all love a bit of it!
That probably means that they've been lined up as a support act, which should be interesting for Brian!
If the boys played Wembley, I'd feel a huge pull to go and see it happen, but I'd hate myself for doing so. Personally, I hope that it doesn't happen, but if it was offered, like me, they'd have to do it. "Some things have just gotta be..."
You could sneak backstage by pretending to be anyone from Oasis apart from the Gallaghers. Just dress like you're in Quadrophenia, walk like you've **** yourself and put on a comedy Manchester accent.
It appears that, Manchester band, Blossoms are the support for the Manchester shows. Somehow, I reckon that the London shows will be someone like The Libertines or Hard Fi. Not contemporaries of the headline act, but nearer their era and from London.
