Don’t find the wannabe Bradley Wiggins types such an issue as the electric bikes and scooters. It’s mental anyone can drive something that moves at a decent speed on city roads with not so much as a cycling proficiency test to their name.

They are supposed to be limited to a certain speed, I think 15mph and legally it’s only pedal assist bikes that should be using public roads and shouldn’t have throttles, otherwise they come into the category of electric motorbikes and need registering with the DVLA, tax and insurance etc.

The law is a mess on it all at the moment. But in principle I thing the govt should be supporting people to get out of their cars in town and city centres

I’ve insured my bike against theft and it came with 3rd party insurance too.

My personal opinion is that the govt should operate a cyclist insurance scheme and the money used to build a better cycle network. Rather than the money going to the shareholders of a private insurance company

Pain has gone now but was very sore for a good 24 hours - elderly bruise a lot more easily, of course...

Pain is normally where it's been in too long and got uncomfortable, or maybe it wasn't sitting right in the hand. By the size of that bruise I'm going to say the latter.

just because they are doing it on emissions as a way to improve our environmental impact, as you say it goes into the general coffers for everything.

If it was just green, they wouldn't put this onto electric vehicles where they are charging car tax on EVs now.

As for the part in bold, you pay car tax per VEHICLE. you should probably be charged about 10 bikes as i bet you have about that many

I want one of those E Scooters I keep seeing kids whizzing about on, although aren't they illegal to use except in areas designated by the local authorities, obviously no one is going to bother chasing kids on them, but an adult probably yeah.

It's been an interesting chat but I'm glad that we all came to the same conclusion that bikes should not be on roads unless there's a cycle path. So simple when you think about it.

It's why I carry a golf umbrella with a metal tip ... it's amazing how far a scrote can fly through the air when you jam it in the spokes <laugh>

To be perfectly honest I wouldn't even think of taking a bike on the road, the level of risk these days compared to when I was a kid are huge. At least when I was a lad there was very little traffic on the roads, and most small housing routes these days have been cut off and replaced by bypasses. Also a lot of areas and high streets have shared access, so there is no clear definition between road and footpath, so you might avoid the car with your bike but instead be to blame for running down a pedestrian. We've got more roundabouts, we've got more traffic lights, none of which are really user friendly and with cyclists in mind. Just give me an E Scooter I'll stick to the footpath, beware pedestrians lol

There was that short fad where people had those hoverboard things. Used to see moody hoodlums using them to get along busy tube platforms and crashing into people. Bring those back.

Cheers. Most cyclists who are out in Lycra will have insurance.

too easily injured and off work. So mine covers loss of bike/earnings.
