My first year flatmates were seriously odd. Only four of us. One started as a medical student, gradually got more liberal, came out as bi, started wearing women’s clothes and now lives as a woman. One nice enough guy from Rochdale now a barrister and he just worked all the time and married the girl he was with before uni. One smelly Lord of the Rings kind of guy who wasn’t from far away and went home half the week and would run back to his room to avoid being in the kitchen with anyone else.

Moral of the story, he’ll make his own mates if he isn’t a social ****** which he probably isn’t.

Morning - still in South Wales but definitely travelling back today ... great week culminates in my aunt's Commemoration ceremony on Friday!

The old girl didn't want a traditional funeral ...

Lol. The random throwing together of housemates.

Used to live with some right randoms, big fat geezer who used to sneak downstairs in the middle of the night and eat a whole mixing bowl full of pasta and mayo. Caught him coming out of the bathroom once and he was too wide for the towel to fit all the way around him. That was traumatic.

Another northern lad who was obsessed with ice hockey and tight as **** with his money. We had shared bills, and instead of divi-ing up the leccy bill 4 ways, he'd write down every time he used the cooker, washing machine etc and try to get out of paying his fair share.

A girl who was as quiet as a mouse and used to apologise every time she came into a room. I don't think she'd really ever heard anybody say **** before and used to blush and remove herself whenever anybody swore.

In the last two years of my uni days I used to live on a dairy farm and we had a Jersey calf that used to come in the house and the workers would feed it rich tea biscuits lol. That place was also fantastic for picking magic mushrooms.

Will say this - I've come close to twatting a couple of the ****ers on my walk from the station to work in London - bad enough having to traverse the busy traffic without having to dodge the knobheads that don't think traffic lights, zebra crossings or one-way signs apply to them

would need to see footage but if he had overtaken with the car in view sure. He's already gone past the biker and the car is then in view so not sure.

We don't need munson type stills

This will cause more debate, but a cyclist should be about 0.5m/1.0m from the curb.
The safe pass allows for the cyclist to go round grates/bits in the road.

that looks like a standard pass, but loads more room for you to go out into

    ****er would have deserved it!

I gave him plenty room, he's a single cyclist tucked in a road bike. If he's just to the right pf the white line, where he should be, there is ample space.

He has exaggerated his position to make me look too close, I wasn't.

Yeah, you are right, they could argue there was room to go over more as you say - only trouble is the more you move over the more you become blind to the road ahead, with the oncoming car from what looks like a bend in the road further ahead - then they will argue you should have waited lol - this is the trouble with the new highway code, it's switched favour I believe to the pedestrian and the cyclist.

I still think Chief should get off it though - I'm really not seeing what those pictures evidence, unless we are going to start fining every single motorist for shhite like that, the more I see this type of shhite the more it puts me off driving, I think eventually we are going to be causing accidents for being over cautious - we are asking the brain to make nanosecond decisions, we are human ffs.

Anyway, I was reading something yesterday, what looked like a click bait article, that they want to start trialling making over 60's resit a test, they can fook right off with that idea, I've been driving for 40 years, a good part of that time very high mileage, it's only in my latter years I poodle around - I'm probably going too slow for everyone now, only because I'm in no hurry and they all are, should slow down shouldn't they. :bandit:

I don’t know in what capacity that will all be assessed, and like you say is somebody’s go pro accurate evidence ? Dunno, I suppose they use dash cams as evidence.

And like you say, they will probably say that as the driver, it’s your responsibility to wait until the road ahead is clear before overtaking and you have enough room to safely pass a cyclist.

It isn’t a road tax, it’s an emissions tax and bikes have no emissions <diva>

If you’d mentioned insurance, I’d agree with you.

    This is my 'statement' to the police;

"I do recall this situation, because as I was approaching the cyclist to pass he made an exaggerated move to the right making it appear that I was passing too close.

The road had been recently surface dressed and there is no centre line marked, but I moved to the right to be more or less occupying the whole oncoming lane and, as I passed (which took barely a second) I noticed an oncoming car and moved back in.

If the cyclist stays to the right of the white line, I feel I have given ample space under the circumstances. I did not deliberately pass too closely.

At the time I gave the benefit of the doubt that he might have been avoiding some loose stone accumulated from the surfacing, but it seemed a deliberate and unnecessary move to me."

Not sure what else I can say, otherwise it would end up too heavily loaded with sarcasm!

If they do decide to attempt to prosecute, which I doubt, I'll be a bit more forthright in my defence tbh. No way am I having some uppity cyclist affect how much my car insurance costs and, ultimately, my livelihood if I stack up more points. **** him.

You use the roads, you help pay for the roads. You are right as well you bikers should get insurance as well for when you crash into the cars

The money raised from VED goes into the general coffers, but it’s not a road tax it’s an emissions tax

    IMG_7004.jpeg

Most cyclists are also drivers so they already pay for any of that money that goes into road maintenance.

I do think cyclists should have insurance though if they use public roads.
