It's down to the same problem we have whether its from a short corner or playing out from the back, we're unable to find a way through a packed 18 yard line. If we're playing out from the back, we're usually too slow so the opponents can get 9 men behind the ball, from a corner they've already got 9 men behind the ball.
I don't know the answer but we do seem to run out of ideas and imagination in that area.

The stats show that we have a higher percentage chance of losing the ball in the oppositions 18 yard box, so the clever tactic is to simply not play the ball into said area.

We're bloody good at it anarl.

A short corner which ends up with our goalkeeper is genius. It significantly reduces the possibility of us losing the ball in their penalty box.

Other moves that ensure we get nowhere near their goal include giving away a throw in by our own corner flag within 3 passes after the ball is released by our keeper and goalkicks which barely leaves our own 6 yard box before a desperate hoof puts the ball out of play somewhere in our own half.

But just remember, the ball never gets into their penalty box so statistically we're less likely to lose it.

It’s mad isn’t it? This possession football means you are in control b*******s.

I blame the day when they started using technology to track pass completion. It has its uses sometimes but has gone way too far.

I do believe however that Tim Walter is not in agreement with the silly passing around. He wants players to always look forward and while he does want it played out the back, he wants the receiver to turn and continue going forward. It’s possibly why we saw Slater over Simons in midfield.

On Saturday it worked perfectly, one phase of play saw us take seventeen passes to get the ball out of our own half, two passes later we gave possession away, superb entertainment. :emoticon-0138-think

This is a good video of how short corners can work. We just do them poorly at the moment

We don't score from lumping it in from a corner and don't score from short corners
Sk what's the point in either

i think something like 3% of corners lead to a goal
which to me, tells me, theyre mostly a waste, short corners can lead to more success if done well

I've told you all before, statistically the opposition is more likely to score than the team taking the corner. From the book The Numbers Game.

Think it depends on the type of short corners.
There's the one/two passes (to change the angle) then whip it in or the fanny about with it then pass back to the keeper

I mentioned this answer the other day. I think it's brilliant. The question is though, are people convinced by it? I am, but I'm already on his side. I'm curious whether people who don't like short corners find it convincing or annoying. Cos that's the thing in football, we're all passionate and emotional and some fans seem to often reject what people inside the game tell us.

I noticed in Walter's interview that he said a few Rosenior-esque things about fans needing to understand what we're trying to do. I do wonder how long before that becomes an issue for people.

a thing with corners that always puzzled me when i started going to watch city:

do we score from corners? no
who's the top scorer? brian marwood
who takes the corners? brian marwood
    does that make sense? no

    look at west ham
do they score from corners? no
who's the top scorer? jarrod bowen
who takes the corners? jarrod bowen
    does that make sense? no

West Ham are probably one of the highest scorers from corners I would have thought? Soucek?

I often find myself thinking when we set up for a free kick or corner "That guy on the edge is totally free, why not pull it back to him for a shot". There's often someone in a position like that but we (and football teams in general) rarely seem to try it. There must be a good reason why but it often looks worth a try to me. The free kick we went short with the other day which I think ended with a Coyle long shot, we actually could've gone straight to Millar on the edge before any of that and he surely would've had space to shoot. He ran away from that position just before we took it but before he moved I thought he was in a really appealing bit of space.

    This.

And I saw the exact same bit and was gutted when Millar ran! I remember seeing a very similar situation early on in a season at the KC (I’ll guess about 12 years ago?) For the life of me, I can’t remember who it was, but we scored from it! I thought at the time, “there we are, we’ll start doing this more often now.” We never did. <laugh>

Most poignant chant on Saturday for me...Was a lady in east Stand row FF....Seat in the 300's chanting: 'Same old City, always passing backwards...'
made me sad and larf at the same time, though she had a very credible point..
