Long gone are the days when you could get a decent roast (albeit with Aunt Bessie’s) and a pint for under a tenner. That was the start of the slippery slope. Nowadays a roast dinner for two in London and 4 drinks - you are looking at a minimum of £50. I speak from bitter experience. Fulham - two roasts were £42 and two drinks each - no change out of £80.
Back in the good old days when Spoons showed the live football on Sky on a Sunday afternoon, you would regularly get a section of society (normally Arsenal or Chelsea “fans”) sit six at a table all afternoon with one Coca Cola and six straws. It must be a cultural thing.
That was a one off - I normally drink in the Crown on match days - and I don’t buy wine there as it’s a men only day!
