Off Topic The London pubs / Spoons thread

Long gone are the days when you could get a decent roast (albeit with Aunt Bessie’s) and a pint for under a tenner.

That was the start of the slippery slope.

Nowadays a roast dinner for two in London and 4 drinks - you are looking at a minimum of £50. I speak from bitter experience.

Fulham - two roasts were £42 and two drinks each - no change out of £80.

 

My two favourites are The Beehive by Brixton Station, and the one in Bromley South.

I find that spoons attracts very odd people - I steer clear of their pubs

 

You mean peasants and the economically inactive

 

Great grub, but only for an occasional treat

 

The food is shocking in there Lardi ?

The sausages are even staler than Reams’ transfer rumours.

 

And short people

To be fair I do use the one at Gatwick for an early morning pint and breakfast when flying out

The chicken burger meal deal is alright.

You cannot beat the large breakfast with coffee refill.

 

Back in the good old days when Spoons showed the live football on Sky on a Sunday afternoon, you would regularly get a section of society (normally Arsenal or Chelsea “fans”) sit six at a table all afternoon with one Coca Cola and six straws. It must be a cultural thing.

 

Pots n kettles.

 

That was a one off - I normally drink in the Crown on match days - and I don’t buy wine there as it’s a men only day!

 

And the fish n chips is OK.
